Okay, so here's the thing: My wireless router has a super long WEP key that I can't change and the cable that came with my PS3 won't reach the router. So, instead of buying an overly expensive cable, would I be able to just plug my ethernet cable from my PS3 into my laptop (which works perfectly fine on the router)? If I could hook the PS3 to my laptop it would be really easy. Thanks.
You can use your laptop as a wireless hub, but you have to use firewire (CAT6 cable). I'm not sure how well it will work, but you can do a google search for directions. I looked it up, once. It didn't seem difficult.
you can use internet connection sharing but that isn't very reliable. and firewire is not category 6 cable. they are two different things. there is a firewire specification that uses a rj45 connection. quit confusing the person. in the end, you best bet is to get your wireless key and just input it into your ps3. much more reliable connection that using ICS through the laptop.
If you want to stay wireless just input your network key. The PS3 will store it so you shouldn't have to type it in each time. If you want to hardwire it then just order a long ethernet cable from "monoprice.com"...their cables are cheap and good quality. good luck.
yes you can do that. I did the same thing before I got my HDtv and had my PS3 hooked to my computer monitor. You just have to have multiple network adapters like mine; wireless and ethernet. Setup;assuming you are running windows; internetsharing. Select the primary network adapter that gets the wireless signal.(aireless) then plug in the ps3 to the ethernet jack and it should treat it like a DHCP connection with your PS3 and boom there you go. I've done this in Vista and XP.
