I am confused as to how I connect my PS3 to a PC monitor. Some comments on the web suggest an HDMI - DVI is all you need, others say that a converter is necessary. Who is right?

they are both right. But I will explain how it works. First you have to know if your pc monitor supports hdcp if so you use a HDMI to DVI cable to connect it with your monitor. But if your pc monitor don't support hdcp you'll have to get a adapter that converts the digital signal of the ps3 to a non hdcp signal without quality losses. You have to connect your ps3 with a hdm/component with the adaptor. And you have to connect the converter to your monitor with a hdmi-> dvi cable or a component cable it depends on which adaptor you use. See this link from a adaptor: http://www.x2vga.com/
