My monitor already has a spare HDMI slot, and of course a couple DVI slots. Most guides tell me that I should use a HDMI to DVI cable for connection, why is that? Can't I just use a HDMI to HDMI cable? I'm aware that I need to use the RCA cable for audio, especially since my monitor has no speakers.

Is it because if I use a HDMI to HDMI cable on the monitor, I will get no audio even if I use the RCA cable, as such the guides recommend a HDMI to DVI cable?

Thanks in advance.

Most guides say DVI because a lot of monitors don't have HDMI ports. Even then not all monitors would work with an HDMI to DVI adapter. Just use your HDMI cable and you can set the audio to be sent through RCA cables in the settings I believe.

HDMI-HDMI is perfectly fine.

I don't think you'll have any audio issues, as the monitor won't register as an audio device, even if it's connected with an HDMI cable. but even if it does think it's an audio device, it's easy to set it to use the RCA's for audio

Thanks. I did notice that most of those guides were rather old, before HDMI monitors became prevalent. I shall give it a try later once I've gotten the RCA adapter.
