Hi I recently just purchased a new Sony 46" LCD TV. Here's the link: http://www.sony****com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665067956

It's a great TV and it looks and sounds superb. I don't really know much on electronics and had a question about the HDMI. In the back of the television, there seems to be 2 HDMI hookups - one by itself, and another with a red and white audio hookup. I am using an HDMI cable purchased from Target - i believe it is a psychlone essential brand cable. I have the HDMI cable hooked up to the back as well as the red and white audio cables (from the orange, white, red cable bundle included with the PS3) hooked up right next to the HDMI cable and all i get is sound and no picture. I can't figure out why there is no picture so I just hooked back up the cables that came with the PS3 to ordinary a/v slot. Anyone know why this is? Also, how would you tell if your viewing it in full 1080p??

Thanks for the comments, help is well appreciated.

well hdmi is audio and video in one but i have an optical cable from my tv to my suround sound reciever becuase it doesnt hav an hdmi port on it, also you have to be able to see your picture to switch it to hdmi.  what i did was hooked up my regular cables and the hdmi at the same time it wont hurt your ps3 then while on regular connection scroll to display and pick hdmi connect and it will allow you to pick up to the highest display your tv goes and then when you pick it the screen will go black and switch your video mode to hdmi and you should see and hear it at that point if not then i dont know what else to say, ut that should work

The RCA connectors (red & white plugs) are there for use with an input that doesn't include audio (i.e. a DVI connection has no audio, so the RCA's are there to make the complete audio/visual hookup). Since the PS3 will process the audio over the HDMI, you don't need the RCA connection. You also need to go into the PS3 menu and specify under settings that the audio is on the HDMI. That should fix you right up.

Ok thanks for your input first of all. Ok I tried selecting the HDMI option from the display settings and the screen goes blank for 30 seconds and goes back. I change the AV cables and switch it out with the HDMI cable and i dont have sound or video. Since the AV cables plug into a different slot than the HDMI cable i switch the video input but it still doesn't work. Im very confused and dont know where to start.

Wait. The only lead from your PS3 to your TV should be HDMI. Then make sure you're on the right channel on your TV. It will be different from the channel you were originally on likely. On my Sony Bravia..  HDMI is AV 4. (AV 1. AV.2 are scarts) and the others are S-Video and PC out. :? Try that..

It still doesn't detect the HDMI i change to video5 which its supposed to be on and it doesnt work. Am i doing it right -- display settings -- set to HDMI cable -- screen goes blank 30 seconds -- reset the ps3 and disconnect AV cables and connect HDMI cable -- switch to video5. It doesn't give me sound or video

your doing way too much here, your hdmi port is seperate port from your regular cables you can have both plugged in at the same time into your tv, now with both plugged in your ps3 will start at the lowest setting which is your reg cables, now change the settings in display to hdmi and pick the highest settin your tv goes when the screen goes black immediately go to video 5 and it takes a few seconds it should now show on video 5 and you should be good with your hdmi.

I would almost put money that it is your Psychlone HDMI cable, i tried this piece of crap and had the same problem, it would not recognize this on my HD cable box or PS3. I swithced to my other HDMI cable and it recognized this right away. Try another HDMI cable and see if that makes a difference.

Well I returned the cable and will continue my search for another HDMI cable soon. Any recommendations as to which cable is best? Also what price should I be expected to pay for one?

Thanks
