This is somewhat similar to what happened to me last Saturday. My 60GB ended up getting a YLOD Monday. That same thing might have happened to yours. Check if when you turn it on, it gives three beeps, a yellow light appears and then turns red and flashes. If that's the case your PS3 is dead and will need repairs.

Your PS3 is gone and so is all the data you have on your HDD if you don't manage to fix this system. Call Sony if you're still under warranty. If you're not, you could try to fix it yourself. Here's a good guide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU
mine did this on sunday now sony want £130 to fix it cos im out of warranty
I didn't even bother calling Sony. Just went out and bought a 250GB Slim. I've had it with the fat 60GB models. Even after a fix they're highly likely to die again with a YLOD.[QUOTE="shads20"]I didn't even bother calling Sony. Just went out and bought a 250GB Slim. I've had it with the fat 60GB models. I agree. Sony should extend the warranty like that other company did for that other console. I think the YLOD is becoming just as spread as the red ring.i kept my 60gb hardrive i have 500gb hardrive on my ps3 now so all my saved data thats on the 60gb is on my 500gb so i have kept my original 60gb hardrive just in case there was nothing wrong with my 60gb i just wanted more space on my system but i think my friend had a similar problem he was playing a game and his ps3 turned off and when he tried to turn it on it did beap and then went red but he was able to get a brand new ps3 from sony for free cause he was under warranty still and he couldnt even get his hardrive out either
God they really f*#ked up on the 60gig model. Had mine since launch and last week I got the YLOD & I wasnt best pleased at all. So I rang sony & they informed that it would cost £131.00 & take up to 6-8 weeks to fix my 60gig PS3, & I would lose all my data on my hard-drive. Or still pay them £131.00 and get a chunky 120gig.
B@ll@xs to that I thought so back on the net I go & 30 minutes later im watching a episode of BBC Watchdog informing me of the YLOD LOL, Cut a long story short they have 2 guys in a van fixing faulty YLOD 60gig PS3's outside sony offices in London.
I found the guys who fixed them & they work round the corner were I live in East London. They charge £84.99 to fix the PS3, 1 months warranty, time of repair 30 minutes, and all of your data saved. Oh & a USB fan wich clips on the front of the system. HAPPY DAYS I thought.
To make it even better becasue the console isnt 6 years old & I had to pay to get the issue fixed myself. They wrote a letter for me to send to the retailer I bought the console from to asking for the money back £84.99, Becasue of the trades act I shouldnt have to pay for the repair I was informed. People who have bought there consoles from GAME & GAMESTATION have had there money back.
So my PS3 is fixed & I havent losted the data on my hard-drive, it took 30 minutes not 6-8 weeks & fingers crossed I should be getting my money back.
TC, you got ylod. It is becoming fairly common for the older 60 gb models to break down, especially after years of extended use. I had it and got it repaired but it happened again. I got it repair again for free but I am thinking I'm going to take my tax refund to buy a slim, transfer the data, and then sell it.
