i have a crt and crts display interlaced signals better, much better. i dont have the money to spend on a brand new lcd or dlp. i have a 57in sony now so i would have to get something at least close to the same size and that would cost between 1300 to 1600 dollars. i just spent 720 on the ps3 and two games, i just dont have it and neither do alot of other people. we shouldnt be forced to buy new tvs to get a better picture when sony could have fixed this problem before there ever was one. hell they make tvs they should know.willpark73well, interlaced is a crappy picture format, obviously you dont like reading links. why would sony go out of their way to make 1080I support when they do in fact sell tvs? that means that helps them sell a nice Sony HDTV. 57inch CRT, how many forklifts does it take to move that around? jebus.interlaced is pretty much done, they rarely even offer a TV that natively supports interlaced anymore, cause the others are coming down in price. its a dying market, why waste resources on something this stupid? you made an investment on a CRT tv when you saw the new techs coming out, if you did any research first, you would have realized CRT was dying, and the others would drop in price severely very soon. did you invest in a top of the line VHS player when DVD's came out too? dont blame sony for a bad choice in what you purchased. unless you have the money to blow, you dont invest in something that is possibly going down the tube quickly, CRT was around wayyyyyy to long not to take a nosedive when the other techs came, they just have more to offer.
and theres no guarantee i would buy a sony tv anyway. i would probably buy a toshiba.willpark73true, but a better chance then if you werent buying a new tv at all, being that Sony makes arguably one of the best TV's on the market, personally i think a few companies are right there with them, like samsung, but its undeniable Sony makes a fine TV, so its quite possible people will support their tv
yeah me either, but it is a little aggravating. i like the ps3 but i dont know how long i can take this. by the way my tv does support 720p rare for a crt i know but it just 1080i better.willpark731080i is not better when the game is rendered in 720p, that's a fact which can't be argues unless your TV is the same size as those at New York Times Square. But if you want to be silly then go into your PS3 screen settings and set it to only support 1080i (if you got both 720p and 1080i marked then obviously VF5 will chose its native resolution 720p because of the better image quality).
Most PS3 games are rendered in 720p. So, if VF5 is being sent to your HDTV as 720p, it is because that is what the game is. The only way the PS3 could send 1080i to your HDTV is if it was rendered in 1080p.b11051973No because now the devs have been introduced to the vertical scaler on RSX.
it can go higher than 720p. trust me i have seen it. if you dont believe it try it yourself. disable 720p in display settings and it works in 1080i or 1080p if your tv supports it. and it looks better than 720p.willpark73True I have 720p and 1080i disabled and play VF5 in 1080p you just have to manually set it like that.
???? You can get up to 180i if you want in VF5(I think 1080P might even be possible) There must be something wrong with your TV or the way you're setting it as many people have been able to do it. onemic

wasn't it only horizontal scaling that was introduced in the latest sdk kits, I may be wrong but I thought it was only doing horizontal scaling for the time being.

LOL sorry, Yes I meant horizontal. Shame on me.:evil: i am not buying another ps3 game until this upscaling issue is fixed. Just started playing vf5 and my tv automatically converted from 1080i down to 720p. I dont understand how the ps3 can display everything in 1080i except games. it boggles my mind. even the ps3 dashboard or crossbar displays in 1080i, but when i pop in a game......bam 720p or 480p for some other people. i will give it to microsoft, they got that part right. come on sony please fix this!!!!!!:evil:willpark73Some games aren't in 1080i, rather 1080p and 720p. It's no scaling issue.
