The current gamespot review on the pc and ps3 ut3 reveals that the ps3 will only support 16 players online while the pc will support up to 32 players online. I know that 16 is still a very generous number, but if anyone has ever played the previous unreal tournaments, you would know that 32 players is a hell of a lot more hectic than 16 players. Words can not describe how much more frenzied and faster it is with 32 players. UT has always been known for over-the-top speed, explosions and warfare, and this news really seems like console versions of UT3 is getting toned down in terms of speed, something UT has always been notorious for.

Well you're right but Consoles have set specs that can't be changed this far in and because of that certain games can't be run the same way as a PC.

But HALF the number of players is quite a drop.

If I'm understanding your correctly, you are pretty much saying that because of the console specs being stuck, sacrafices were made in order to keep the game similar for both pc and ps3 because the ps3 just cant support everything a top end pc can. I'm sure epic could've found some way to bring that number closer to 32 without any sacrafice on the ps3. I mean, this is literally sacraficing gameplay.

I'm sure there's a way to make it hectic like putting all 16 players ina very small map.

quoted from the gamespot preview:

"Though Unreal Tournament 3 will have a single-player story, the game is still built around the idea of intense multiplayer battles, either against computer-controlled bots or other players online. (While the PC supports up to 32 players, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will support up to 16.)"
