Im getting a ps3 in a few days and my room is absolutely packed with my 360, wii, pc, tv, etc and if i could stand the ps3 vertically it would save a lot of spacebut i dont know if its a good idea. would a vertical stand help with more ventilation or is it going to be already well ventilated?

It is better for your PS3 to be vertical.

Yeah just play it vertically, thats what I do and I save a ton of room. I found out that if u leave it horizontally it will heat the platform u have it on and eventually it would turn itself off. But, no problems to report here.

Well if its in a confined space than vertical is good. I personally have mine horizontal, but i just like it that way. I have space but imo its nicer looking. The only problem with vertical is the fact that you may tip it or drop it more easily in contrast to horizontal. But if you take care you should be fine, its just a preferance.

I have mine vertical. But damn it's ugly as hell this way. If I could change it to horizontal I would but I have no space. :x

Personally, I prefer to make love to my PS3 horizontally. I've tried vertical a couple times, but she can get kinda heavy.

I know on certain comptuers the way the heat is disipated is the way the computer sits. FOr instance certain computers laid down horizontally will overheat.

Secondly I have heard alot of people complaining that the xbox 360 standing vertically causes games to scratch, but the PS3 is obviously different and does not have the disc tray.

I would recommend to lay the PS3 horizontal unless you dont have a choice.

Everyone has different preferences whether to put it horizontal or vertical. But personally, I like having mine horizontally vertical or sometimes vertically horizontal. :)

Mines horizontally for the sole reason that I didn't want dust to just fall in the the top vents when the PS3 is vertical and not running, but this is only cuz I'm in the basement and its really dusty down here. :P Otherwise I wouldn't be worried. :)

This isn't a pointless thread. I like it =P I used to have my PS3 flat but it got so effing hot so I had to move it to vertical. That sucks because I can't fit it into my TV table now.

it's better in the vertical position. The vents are located on the side and hot air travels up. if it's in the vertical state heat will get out much easier.

LOL

People said the same thing about the 360 (putting it vertically), and then wondered why it overheated.

Yeah, great idea. Lay it right on it's air intake vent. It doesn't matter if heat rises, or if the place where the fan blows is clear....if it can't take IN cool fresh air, you'll eventually roast it.

If you have all the systems, I'd display it according to how you display your Wii and 360. Because my Wii looks best displayed vertially rather than horizontally, I did the same with all the other consoles. It looks more organized this way. If you prefer it horizontal, I'd probably buy a horizontal rack that'll hold all three systems.
