i would keep it laying down because the playstation 3 has vents on both side for the heat to come out.. if u put it up you will cover one of the sides and its not much help to cover a vent now is it??

standing it up doesnt cover any vents

either way works, how you stand it is up to the space you have to set it up

Horizontal has been proven to keep the PS3 cooler, which is all the information I need. Longer game play for a wider space, I'm down with that.

This is what I think. Ur PS3 is a power plant. And all power Plants Stacks are all vertical right. I have had only had one freeze up on me once. Verticle is better.

1. My ps3 is not a power plant

2.it does not have smoke coming out of it.

3. Plant Stacks are vertical but the plant itself...is not

I don't have a link, but remember reading something about this as well. It has to do with the shape. When it's on it's side, the heat rises into the domed top, and then is blown out the side vents. When it's vertical, the heat rises, and is blown out the top, but since the heat is rising through the center of the console (where the boards and chips are, it runs hotter than horizontal, where the heat is just hanging out in the empty top area. Something like that anyway. I read it, it made sense to me, so I didn't question it.

Really it doesn't matter as long as its not diagonal. You'll ruin your disks if it is.

I keep mine vertical and it seems to run a bit cooler because it's not holding heat under the domed area. The most heat is created in the drive area and when it's standing vertical the drive is at the highest point thus allowing a shorter distance for the heat to travel out of the console.

lay it flat (horizontal).

theres research taht more heat accumilates if you put it vertical, where as the overal heat is spread out and "low" if its laying flat.

I have the superslim, and by itself it would be flimsy to have it vertical (unlike the "Fat" and older slim) so I also got the optional stand:

PS3 superslim

Basically it's a matter of choice and requirements, and particularly the place you'll set it up. If space is tight, you might want to set it vertical.

It doesn't matter, you clowns. There is less than 1 degrees Celsius in difference.
