As many of you people probibly know, the iPhone is coming out this friday. With all the hype around it, there have been a few people questioning the phone: the battery life, screen scratches, ect. However, there has been little talk of the price. Its $500!!! As soon as the price of the ps3 was andounced, lots of people we crying out in protest. Yet a 4gb iPhone is 500 buck! Or $600 for an 8gb model! I'm not justifying the price of the ps3, i personally thinks its expensive and won't buy one till the price drops, but the ps3 seems so much better than an iPhone. You get a game system, blu-ray player, its HD and has wifi, a 60 gb hard drive.... The iPhone just seems like such a worse deal than the ps3. Why do you think everyone jumps all over the ps3, yet seem to accept the same price for an iPhone, PLUS a 2 year contract with AT&T (which i imagine isn't cheap either)?

Because no one wants the iPhone yet, I've yet to here someone even talk about it.
The fact is that a lot of people want a PS3, it's just that they don't want to dish out $600.

Iphone is for people who aren't smart enough to realize it for what it really is. There are phones out already far better then the Iphone. The only function I like was the picture viewer and that was only decent. But this isn't a valid topic because there are tons of phones that cost that much; the Nokia N95 costs $800.

Whos gonna pay $600 for a phone? If I ever paid that much for a phone, that thing better make me breakfast and clean my room. Thats just way too much for a phpne IMO. If I had $600, I would go straight to the store and get me a PS3. Besides, you should just wait to see if the phone has any problems with it.
I never considered those 2 to be in the same field really. Since the PS3 is a complete entertainment system rolled into one and the iPhone is....well I guess a super advance palm pilot. I heard on the news that the hype was soooooo huge for the iPhone that if one minor flaw turns out to be a huge problem, it oculd bring down Apple's stocks like crazy. It was on special edition so I don't have a link, sorry. The only people that will truly need an iphone though will be the people that can afford it. Other than that, just get a ps3 and a "regular" phone.

yopu actually are gonna spend close to $2100 for the iphone for 2 years. Thats why you dont buy a first gen apple product. wait till january when the second gen will released, better and cheaper.

an iphone would be cool, but just like an ipod, the second wave or generation will be 100% better. and im still holding off until after E3 to get a PSP to see if they are designing a new one, and if it will have a phone feature.

i beg to differ that phone has real internet not the crap cell internet but the search any site i want to one. that phone has apples OS 10 in it. tell me a phone that has that. and 500 bucks is way to cheap for that 1000 sounds good to me but apples to nice to do that. your talken music, full movies tv showes, brand new text style, pics, touch no more tinnnny buttons. i mean that phone has so much it ant even funny youll see.

I'm a businessman, Iphone doesn't interest me to the least. It's cool, but just a big waste of money. I do however, have a PS3.
I think the iPhone looks awesome, but I don't see myself getting it any time soon. I am happy with my current phone and already have an iPod. for me it would just drain the battery out of my phone which I hate to charge in the first place. $600 is a lot, but what did you expect when their latest iPod is still running at $350? Now add in a phone, internet, etc. and they are going to charge you all they can. The thing about it is you will still have to pay for extra features if you aren't already doing so and change providers if you aren't with AT&T already (unless they change that in the future).
As far as the PSP with phone, etc... wasn't that the death of the N-Gage? I think people are trying to cram too many features into one gadget. Let a phone be a phone, a music player be a music player, and a gaming system be a gaming system. Perfect what you've already got.

I'm not going to spend $500 on a phone thats going to be replaced in 1 year, especially one from Apple who has replaced they're Ipods so many times...I'm happy with the PS3, I know it will last many many years.
Seeing that i dont use my phone all that much and I play my ps3 every night... I would say the PS3 is the better deal.... Though when the iPhone price comes down and its storage gets to around 40Gb i'll probably have to pick one up .... would be nice to have everything in one gadget and the interface looks really nice... my pockets will thank me but my check book wont

Ihave a phone for 200 bucks put in a 4 gig flash card put on my own mp3's and play the crappy cellphone games I never play because I have a ps3.. put movies on it and watch some shows and all that without a contract at all.

I mean if u look at most smart/PDA phones they are around the same price, its just that with most of those phones, when you sign a new contract you get so many rebates that it cuts the price in half. That doesnt happen with videogame systems. Now the question is, since no contract and plan details have been released for the iPhone yet, will it come with rebate deals too??? If it does then it will fall in line with other phones of its kind, if it doesnt I expcect to hear complaints about the price. It just hasnt happened yet because we dont know if there will be any rebate deals.

Well I was going to respond to this thread with a post about how the PS3 and iPhone have different target audiences, but I think you beat me to it . ;)
I don't know about some of you, but I'm more content having paid $600 for something that does everything the iPhone does (with the exception of being a phone) except better, with full next-gen games and Blu-Ray support, and without the likely high monthly fees.
If I had to buy a cell phone, I'd buy one that is meant strictly for contacting people in emergencies, I have my PSP for large amounts of multimedia content on the go.
won't the iphone have mail in rebates and special offers? I know when i bought my phone it did. I only paid 50 dollars for it i believe when its actually prices ranges from 250 (cinuglar) - 350 (best buy)

You are kidding right. The iphone is Edge technology and provides nothing new - nothing. I have the Sony Ericsson W810i which has the built in walkman player which is great, can play itunes format, has a memory card that I can stick into the ps3 to transfer music and pictures, is also Edge - more importantly it has a battery that can be switched out so you don't have to throw it away in 1-2 years (this will become an issue with the iphone) and finally it has a great 2megapixel camera with zoom and flash that takes surprisingly good pictures. It cost $50 and the 4gb memory card cost $70 so tell me again how the iphone for $499 is a good deal...............
Now apple also has that product for $299 that allows you to stream music and videos from itunes to the tv.........$300 for something that does a fraction of what the ps3 can do (streaming is no issue with the ps3 after v1.8 update).......

The point is paying a certain amount of tech stuff and seeing what we get. If you are going to complain about the $600 for a PS3 you have to ask yourself what else would you have gotten for the money....... You could say - hey it is only about 20 rounds of golf etc - now we compared it to the iphone with is a tech gadget and I think it works fine.
Iphone - overpriced not going to sell 10 million - if it does it is mainly because people don't know what else is out there
PS3 properly priced -- will sell as more and more people understand what it can do (and further developments are released)

ive spent 600 bucks on plenty of stuff, but i dont try and compare my TV or my computer to my PS3. I purchased them for different reasons, hence the reason that comparing a "High tech" phone to a playstation is silly ..a phone is a phone no matter how much crap it does.
The PS3 is a much better deal it is a lot more expensive than 600 bucks to make. The iPhone is suspected to only cost 250 bucks to make so Apple is getting 50 percent profit every phone sold. Sony is losing money everytime a PS3 is sold. I want an iPhone but I will never spend that much money on a phone it is not even close to being worth it.
Yeah the Iphone really should be like $200. The PS3 has 56 more GB, a gaming system, a blu ray player and then everything else the Iphone has except for a phone. If only the PS3 was one fourth the size of the PS2 slim-line and was a phone...

I say the same about I-Pods, they are overpriced and overhyped. There are plenty of MP3 players out there that are a lot cheaper or give you more bang for your buck.
