60 gig cuz the 80gig advantage is only 20gigs
you can buy any game and a bigger hdd if you look around good enough and probably pay less then the extra $100

also the 60gig will have better BC, right off the bat that is, due to it still having the EE chipset

The 60GB is stil better mainly because it has the Emotion Engine inside so it pretty much has near 100% compatibility with PS2 games (a must for me since my PS2 library is considerable and I still play them alot).

As for the harddrive it's only an extra 20GBs, besides if Iwantmore space I can always go and buy a large one from a computer store and just install it manually and voila, 120 or 160GB no problem! 8)

A silly question usually gets a silly answer, but technically you are calling everyone who voted an idiot by saying 73% of you idiots, so maybe next time you take a minute and think before you try to belittle people with your vast wisdom on the differences between 60 and 80 gig ps3's

why is sony doing the same thing they did at launch? It doesn't make any sense for the business or its loyal customers to do this. Yeah, a $100 price drop is great, and is actually motivating me to get a ps3 but the "samurais" at sony (every dick at sony think they are a samurai, trust me) decide to cut production on the very thing that gets people like me, and theres plenty of people who want the ps3, to want to buy one

I dont think you realize how much 60 GIGs is.....its a ton. Most of you probably dont ever delete stuff you download. Delete demos you never play, videos you dont watch. Seriously 60 gigs is a ton for a game system. I voted 60 GIG because its tons of space and is $499 now. Also full backwards compatibility was a must for me when considering purchase. And you can always buy a rumble controller when they sell them seperately.

I agree, you only lose 20 GIG HD space and you get the Emotion Engine amd $100 cheaper.

60G for me. I don't see myself filling up the 60GB at all so there's really no reason for me to pick up the 80GB model. Although it's nice that they're giving you Motorstorm since my little brother loves that game, but I'll just buy it seperately from the 60GB PS3.

Blitz_Nemesis

Sorry you're mistaken.

In essence the 60gb model is superior PS3 hardware with a slightly smaller hard drive. The 80gb unit is going to cut some costs by going to software compatability (emulation) instead of hardware (hardware is always better)- then they're going to give you an extra 20gb of hard drive space to justify the $599 price tag. In reality SONY will make a profit on the 80gb units by removing the Emotion Chip and the Harware compatability for the PS1 and PS2 - this is a good businees move by SONY, but the consumers who get the 80gb unit will be getting inferior units to the 60gb models as they will be missing some of the hardware.

Didn't mean to get all long winded about it - here's the skinny and answer to your question...

Go buy the 60gb unit before they're gone.

:)

20GB difference is almost nothing, but the 80GB is still better because it comes with some essential things, games and an extra controller and it's cheaper than buying everything separate. If you want more memory than go to www.newegg.com and buy a 160GB notebook HDD for $95 dollars.

Not necessarily. Like someone previously stated, you could find a used game or go on ebay, anywhere where a game isnt $60. And just have a friend bring over a controller unless you have siblings you CONSTANTLY play with.

I would think that most people don't have friends with PS3s... Only one of mine do and the rest have PS2s and Xboxes. Games aren't really that cheap on Ebay and used ones at myGamestop are $55...

The lack of EE chip means nothing, every commonly played ps2 and ps1 game is playable on the EE-less PS3s i'm mainly talkinga botu the GT, GTA, MGS, GoW, FF, Jak & D, Ratchet, Crash etc franchises. It has a 85-90% Backwards compatibility while the EE chip is 99%, that 10-15%R difference is random games like pS1 launch titles or games like Poker or pool, that no one really cares for. So ppl who say oh it has no EE chip, thats BS it makes no difference! and since 80 Gigs is 20 gigs more than the 60 and it plays every PS, PS2, PS3 your goign to want to play, it means that the 80 is better than the 60.

60 GB because for the price of an 80 you can get the 60 + a 160 GB HDD. That's one HUGE apple! :)

80 GB because of more hardware space, and 1 million units ship motorstorm with it. that is $600. if u were to buy a 60GB ps3 for $500 and bought motorstorm for $60, then just think about if 20GB of hard drive space costs 40 bucks.
