Well I made a topic earlier but had to change up some stuff so I thought I might as well make another one. so the deal is that I can get a...

PS3 (40GB) + Ratchet and Clank + Call of Duty 4 + Spider Man 3 movie for $525

OR

PS3 (80GB) + Motorstorm (Dont care for it)+ Call of Duty 4 (I just need this game!!) for $637

Does having the memory card readers and Crome trim on the bottom makes a difference? I heard you can upgrade your PS3 HDD which I wont be doing since I am only gonna be using it for games or demos.

Are demos that huge that I am eventually gonna run out of 40GB of space?

I also heard that you only have 30GB free when you start it up?

I also have a PS2 but the catch is that it doesn't read dual layered disks or I think it doesn't. I have tried to play GOW so many but it just gives me a DRE. However all of my other games like DMC 3, GTA, Tekken work fine. That is the reason why I dont have GOW 2 yet.

Thanks.

Demos are like 1GB, around that size. But the game file for Oblivion is like 5GB, so if you have like 5 games loaded up it could get to use up alot of GBs. The 40gb can not play ps2 games and I am sure that ps2 is gonna break so day. I say just get the 80gb Ya you will prolly only have around 32GB if you get the 40.

If you can live with playing what PS2 games you can on your PS2, then go for the 40 Gig so you can use the money you would save to get other games.

I say to hell with both of them and search harder and find a 60gb. I found one today at a pawn shop for $299. That's a full BC PS3 for $299! Yes, I bought it. Yes, it's used and scratched up, but for the price it's worth it in my opinion. Some stores still have new 60gb's if you look hard enough. (For $499 though)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I mean40GB + 2 games + 1 movie for $112 less than the 80gb with 1 game (I wont be playing motorstorm) for $112 more.

60 gig is enough space and you got full bc. demos are like a gig plus most games and demos cache some so a bit mroe of your hd is lost. don't forget saved game files can be pretty big cod4 is 10mb.

i would say the 60 gig, call of duty 4, and ratchet and clank for $620 since you dont want motostorm and i have the 60 gig and its plenty of memory, and i think the 40 gig is a little too small.

$620 s a little too much (not even including tax) compared to $525 with tax. And I plan on deleting all of my demos once I am done with them except for online betas of games. For example how many times would you play the 5 minute demo of Heavenly Sword.

You say you don't have the kind of cash it takes to get the 60gb, but it costs the same as the 80gb, so how is that? You say you have enough for the 80gb. If you want to play PS2 games then you must search for the 60gb, if BC is not a big deal, then I say just get the 40gb. Who cares that the 80gb can play "some" ps2 games? I say either it can play them all or I don't want it. I'd rather just use my PS2 then have to hope that stupid software BC 80gb plays them. So my opinion is: 1st choice: 60gb plus COD4. 2nd choice: 40gb plus COD4 and R&C.

i think the 40 gig will be backwards compatible with a future firmwear upgrade, sony are going to tackle backwards compadibility with softwear imulation just like the 360 as it's cheaper than having the emulation chip . in the 60 and 80 gig versions.

and yes, i think there will be an external drive that you can connect to your ps3 available down the track to expand it's capacity.

You can already hook up an external hard drive to the usb port of a ps3. You can also replace the internal HDD with any standard laptop hard drive. It's supposed to even have instructions on how to change it out in the PS3 manual.

Get the 40G. I don't use any of the extra usb slots and haven't played a PS2 game in the year I have had my PS3. I didn't even get GOW2 (If that game came out a month earlier I would have got it) because I had a PS3.

To sameer_zues: PS3 games are on Blu-Ray. If you take that out you can't play any of the games that are already out. That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Get a 60GB if you can find one, full BC, good HDD size and "fully loaded" :)

If you are absolutely strapped, just save up some more until you can afford a 60GB, its still possible to find some if you look hard enough. The 60GB is still the best deal out there IMO for a gamer looking to get a PS3.

lol i doubt it man, becuase if they do that then they cannot make games using the blue ray stroage capacity, which would mean people with ps3's with out the blue ray would only be able to play the games made in dvd format.

blue ray is an advantage to everyone, even those who have not upgraded thier tv's yet becuase it allows developers to make larger and more detailed games. do you remember how many games on the ps2 were firstly made with the standard cd format (700mb) within a year or so after that 90% + of games on the ps2 were using the dvd compression format which gave the ps2 better quality games.

Don't give us that bullcrap! Blu-ray isn't needed for games this gen. It's only a trojan horse for Sony to win the high def war. In fact, blu-ray is whats draggin' the PS3 down! What they should have done is go with dvd-9 and a bigger harddrive and work with that for a cheaper price. They would have had triple the userbase by now.

If your looking to play PS2 games on your console you better go with the 60 or 80gb although the 80gb is not full backwards compatible with all PS2 games. The 40gb does not play PS2 games at all.

lol your totally wrong dude ,blue ray is one of the things that make the ps3 the premium console on the market, im sure games like killzone 2 and MGS4 will use the blue ray format to give thier game more detail and a larger single player campaign. i can't believe there are people out there like you slamming the better form of technology when 99% of people like to see advancments in technology. are you just pissed off becuase your 360 went red ring on you?

the 360's fate is coming very soon, consumers with half a brain won't buy this console now that the ps3 has come down in price. and why would you when the ps3 is a console made for the future inbuilt wifi etc. keep living in the past if you like, i have an atari 2600 i can send you

I agree with some people here... blu-ray is the main reason for the price, the shortage and a few more problems the PS3 is still having now. Sony is using the PS3 to push the high-def war to their side, and they will take anything out of the PS3 but the blu-ray player... Usefull, yes; Needed, not so much.

And about the original question in the topic... I would go with the 80 GBs. 40 can get small after a while, and besides, 40 doesn't have BC, which should be an issue for you if you couldn't play some of the greatest games in the PS2 generation, such as GoW and GoW2...

I really don't see the justification for purchasing the 40gb when in reality you are given more bang for your buck with 80gb. At least you have BC and a free game, but on the other hand if you purchase the 40gb you have about $100 to play around with. Adding another $20-30 dollars can get you 2 new games that you choose. I don't see the 60gb in the stores period so might have to do some looking but you might pay more. If you are counting your pennies and don't mind no BC, then purchase the 40gb. IMO, the 80gb or 60gb are more appealing.

If you don't care about BC and don't have too much money to spend, then go with the cheaper 40Gb version...

I say get the 80 gig PS3, more memory and such, but it really depends.....

If your gonna just play games then get the 40 gig and thats a cheap blu ray player with it.

You like downloading things and lots of demos and media and suchthen get the 80 gig.

I wouldn't worry about the BC on the 80 gig, most games work on it anyway and the network is working on fixing it... for example DMC 3 didn't work and then with the system update they fixed it and it worked perfectly.
