hey guys. I recently swapped my thomson router fora ****** N+ router. Before, my signal strength was about 25%.. now it's around 40% usually with the N router but still fluctuates to low strengths. I was just wondering if there was anyway I could boost it? Unfortunately, my router is two walls away and I can't move it any closer.

Any help? plz and ty, don't think I can stand these 'you have been signed out' messages during a multiplayer match much longer.. ¬_¬

What are those two walls made of? You could also try disabling media server as that tends to cause the random sign out problem.

Have you thought of getting a additional access point? It helped me when I was living in a 3 story house

I moved my cables by going through the loft and putting them through the ceiling. Pretty easy, just means your router will be in your room rather than where it was before. Although this didnt solve all my problems, my console is about 1.15 metres away from my router, no walls in the way. Yet i loose connection in the middle of playing matches online. I loose connection around once every 3 hours. Kinda sucks but what can you do when youre with a rubbish network like orange.

You can find the option somewhere on the XMB, in Network settings I believe. All it does is disable the PS3 from searching for possible media servers connecting to the network. I used to get disconnected all the time until I disabled media server.

Thanks. The reason I can't move it is because I run it through the phone line and the only ADSL point is two rooms away =/. I'm watching the signal strength now.. it's so weird, one it'll be like - 20, 30, 35, 40, 100 and then go to like 12% :S I don't get it at all.

what do you mean an additional access point? I also have a laptop in my room.. dunno if I could use that to my advantage but I have considered a bridge network..?

Two walls really isn't that much. Is your router on a different floor? What's the total distance between the two?

They're pretty big rooms xD and the walls are very thick.. I'd say there's about 10 metres between my router and ps3.

That's a decent amount of distance but within range. The fact you can even see up to 100% signal strength at times while both router and PS3 are at static positions leads me to think it's your source.

UGHHH thomson and ******??? ****** routers sucked for me and i would even consider a thomson.....buy a netgear, I have the netgear n gigabit or something like that and I get 88 percent, and my ps3s on a separate floor.

On a completely serious note, you can use a satilite dish. Just place it behind the router so the concave side is facing the router then the ps3 in a as straight line as possible.

One thing you may have thought is the N router would be a better router when really there isn't many electronics that even uses the N signal from these routers. The PS3 doesn't use the N router signal and sometimes these routers can cause problems with the PS3. As for the signal strenth there are all kinds of things that can cause the signal to drop. My system is connected wirelessly and it took a while of trial and error of repositioning the PS3 and router too finally get a very good signal. The distance may have nothing to do with your problem but any medal appliance in line with the system and router can block the signal. Any type of radio wave on the same frequency can cause all kinds of problems. That's some of the most common problems with wifi.
