There is no permanent fix for the YLOD, even if you do manage to get it working again it will YLOD again eventually.
I'm on ps3 number 6. I know all about it. I have all the tools to open and fix this problem (not permanently mind you). But when and if you do get it working again, it's just a ticking time bomb and it will happen again, no matter what you do.
If you can get it working again, my advice is to buy a new ps3. The slim one, not super slim and transfer your data to it. If you do not have the cash to do so, get PS Plus and back up your saves. There's only so many times that you can fix the YLOD issue before the ps3 stops displaying things completely. Just trying to tell you what happened to me, so people like you can avoid this.
@sandmand12: Well ,exactly at this time of the summer last year (when temperature had exceeded 41 degrees Celsius) ,I "almost" ran into the same problem with my PS3.I say almost ,because it hadn't really YLODed ,rather it would just make one hell of a loud fan noise. It was close to YLOD though.
I came here and asked for advise , and kitty gave me exactly the same post he has given you here, that he knows everything about YLOD and that he's on PS3 #6 ,and that fresh thermal paste can fix this for you (I'm glad you haven't got the sixth one YLODed in the past year @kitty :P )
I have only one thing to add ,don't be so desperate about thermal compound like what kitty says ; fresh thermal compound has worked just like a dream for me , I mean it's been magnificent. After I applied the new thermal paste last year , I've played Last of Us ,Beyond ,GTA 5 ,Burnout Paradise and many other games that I fail to recall at the moment ,and guess what , the console has been as quite as a sleeping cat.Even quieter than day one ! I can't hear any noise coming out of the console , even when playing Last of Us or Beyond (you do realize that these games push the console to its very limits). To this day ,I haven't encountered any problem of any kind with my fat old PS3.
Just search YouTube for some videos regarding the process of disassembling the console and applying the fresh thermal compound.Remember you'll have to hover on the mainboard with a heat gun (or a hair dryer) to fix the CPU and the GPU back on the board (I didn't have to do this because my console hadn't actually YLODed ,so the CPU and the GPU hadn't actually detached from the board )
@elkoldo: Thanks for the advice!!, i have fix it and my ps3 working like a charm, any suggestion or advice for how long can i play my ps3 after got YLOD?,i'm affraid i got YLOD again and that would be suck, ain't spending my money again for some stupid problem....
Thanks....
@sandmand12: If you have already fixed it ,well done then ! Like kitty told me last year ,there's no telling how long the console will work for you.Really no telling. For me ,it's been a year and I encountered not a single problem ever since.I got a couple of tips that seem to have extended my console's lifetime :
@kitty We should put the lesson we learnt from PS3 in practice with PS4 :P I'm not gonna buy it unless they make a slim model. And not black ,I'm fed up with this color !
@elkoldo: thanks!..but one more question please.... i heard about "Reballing" does that will make ps3 live more longer? or at least 1-2 years?

I'm with you on this. I'll take a slim white ps4, or anything other than black. Come on sony release a slim already. :P

reballing could, but it's very expensive, imo it's better to just buy a new ps3. Just avoid the fat models.
@elkoldo: one more question please...... first time i got YLOD,i was playing Battlefield 3,then it shut down by itself after that i turn on my ps3 then i playing BF3 again, then 5 minutes later...my ps3 shut down by itself again,i turn on my ps3 again then BOOOOOOMMMMM....i got YLOD shit,
I'm affraid i got YLOD again when i played BF3,Does that affect the YLOD?
Thank you..... :)

@sandmand12: I'm not sure if I fully understood your question ; but the more technically-advanced a game is ,the higher the chances of YLOD are.I don't know about Battlfield 3 but YLOD happened with Last of US to me.
If you've done the thermal paste ,and five minutes after playing the YLOD hit again , I think you must find a plan B.That means a new console.
