PS3's dying because of a firmware update?

I went to the playstation forums and I found this interesting topic, has this happened to anyone? I'm afraid to start MW2 and play it now. Can anyone confirm PS3's are really having issues reading discs after this update?

I got this problem from 2 days and I really hate sony now,I have been a fan of sony from psone till ps3,I got all of them systems but I think after what happened to my ps3 ,won't be my console next time.

fifa 10,after it ,I did what people says and it works but when I was sliding the to the game icon it was freezing and not even show the background ,after that it stop's reading discs any more except dvd's.

Mmm, logic. Let's boycott an entire company which has provided 15 years of quality gaming because of one ****-up.

Oh really? I have 3.15 since last December and so far I had no problem with it (games played includes KZ2, Motorstorm, Demon's Souls and MGS4). I'm glad I stayed away from MW2 :P

This thread scared me though, is there a way to downgrade firmware?

Edit: Maybe worth mentioning, I have the 80 GB non-BC with 2 usb ports model from 2008.

I didn't tell u to boycott the company ,every one have his own dissemble , I wont buy sony console not bec of this thread ,I said it bec my psone and ps2 broken on me before.

I love the logic on this ps3 board. My ps3 Broke while i was playing **** and now it dont work so its ***** fault. Instead of it being chance. Also once again i blame the user. Because if a disc drive overheats or is heated for prolonged periods it will go bad especially since it has moving parts. And it being blamed on firmware, thats why its says DO NOT STOP INSTALLATION ONCE IT BEGINS. Now I admit that sometimes parts just crap out but thats much more unlikely. The disc drive is very easy and can be cheap to replace so instead of whining how sony made you buy a new console, figure out how to fix your own.KLONE360

I am really trying to fix the problem and I gave it to my friend ,by the way the user is not always the reason ,when I was having ps2 I was playing with it so much and I said thats maybe the problem and I didn't blame sony but when I got my ps3 I said I won't play with it so much like the ps2 and I didn't ,then its break on me so who I should blame my self or sony,I am 21 years old and I know what I am saying very well.

no I didn't stress it in the 1st month ,bec I didn't like resistance 1 and motorstorm 1.

I don't think MW2 can cause all these problems. Maybe, because a lot of people play it the probabilities are increased for those problems to happen when MW2 is in the PS3...IMO.
