http://www.examiner.com/article/playstation-4-features-revealed-ps4-not-backwards-compatible-for-ps3 PS4 should have some kind of BC if it wants to attract people to buy it. Now that Sony purchased Gaikai, I think we can expect some kind of streaming system for playing PS3 and other older platform titles. Because including it as a part of the hardware will make it more expensive.

What do you mean by a streaming system? I'm assuming we would have to buy all the games again that we want to stream which in that case no thank you. I already have 40 PS3 games on disc. It would be a waste.

Since I still have my games I prefer hardware BC.

I'm for whatever helps keep the initial cost of the new hardware DOWN. If that means they forego BC so they can market a cheaper PS4, then I'm all for that. I'm keeping my PS3 so BC is not a major selling point for me; but getting a "cheaper" next gen console would be more enticing than being able to play PS3 games on it.

Sony said they aim to make a PS4 more 'affordable' than the PS3 when it launched. I don't know how much it would affect the cost of the system to add hardware BC and I know they would love to make us re-buy our games again if they could. They have to factor in their competitors as well, WiiU is already offering Wii and Game Cube BC (although Game cube is through their store only). If the next Xbox also offers full BC then Sony might have to think a bit more seriously about this. Backwards compatibility can still be a significant enough incentive for people buying a new console. As unlikely as it would be, it'd be nice if they stream PSP titles though. But I guess they want to save those for the struggling PS Vita.

Hardware BC would be really nice, but I don't really expect it to be like that. My main hope is having PSN accounts transferable and all games purchased with the account to be available to re-download and play.

Doesn't matter to me personally, If we could have the BC however, I would choose the hardware option.

I will probably hold off buying the PS4 if it doesnt have backwards compatibility. If it does have it then I will get it sooner.

I don't care for BC personally, but ultimately it'll be good for the growth of the platform so I'm for it.

I wouldn't expect it but I'd consider it a nice perk if it were there.

Not to mention that would NOT be BC. That would just be what we have this gen, which is Sony tweaking old games. Having to buy a game again to play it is not BC.

Some people sell their old consoles to buy a new one. is it really that unreasonable?

If Sony does make B/C playback available for Playstation 4. Include the hardware. Yes it is more expensive but worth it.

Not worth it to everyone. Higher introduction cost is more of a barrier than not including a trivial feature. Let's face it, if BC was SO popular as some people wishes it was then PS3 and 360 both would still be heavily supporting it. However, we see the exact OPPOSITE as both companies stopped supporting it long ago.

Not unreasonable at all. But if playing PS3 games is that important to you, keep your PS3.
