Bought a PS4 last week and I was stupid enough not to unbox it straight away. I did that an hour ago and heard a really loud buzz halfway through the set up. I hadn't even put a disc yet. The sound's been there and it only disappears when I hold the PS button to get the "shut down menu". It's there in the main menu, it's there when I log in, it's there when I play. It's the fans on both sides. Horizontal placement. Also it's shooting out flaming hot air from the back.

Why does the buzz disappear when I hold PS button? Is this normal?

I'm going to sleep now and wake up to see your replies. If it's not normal I'll take it to the service center and hope they replace it.

Yeah everyone seems to have it. Cheap ass HDD apparently. I'll test it out with an SSD and see if it solves the problem then return it.

I never had such problems with my PS4. I got mine in January. No HDD change made.

Sure it's not the disc drive? I know that thing can be really noisy when it is installing/authenticating a game on launch. And it might be possible that holding the PS button stops that process? I dunno. Just throwing things out there.

@MondasM That gives me hope. Kind of.

@soethi6 remove any disc, listen in to the sides of the PS4 during main menu (XMB or whatever it's called now)

@Articuno76 No disc inside. It's most likely the HDD. Could be the fan though.

I don't want to sacrifice my genuine windows 8 on the SSD for testing. I'll see if I can borrow an SSD from a friend and tell you guys the results.
