PS4 launch is depressing. Should I stick with it?

I'm very impressionable.

I picked up the buy 2 get one deal on Amazon. Knack, Killzone and BF4. Knack is not doing well in reviews. Killzone is mixed.

I am also hearing rumors of consoles breaking already.

Should I be worried? This isn't a reason to jump to the other side is it?

@SpiderLuke: The rumors of bricking consoles have not been confirmed (you can say anything on Twitter) and have not been widely reported (1/2 a dozen out of 5,000).

As for the games... I'm disappointed in Knack too. I got it as my free game with Amazon as well. But hey, it was free.

As for Killzone... EVERY review I read praises the online. And EVERY review I've read for BF4 and COD also were disappointed with the campaign. If anything, I think I'll enjoy the campaign of Killzone more than those too. I wouldn't even play the campaign of a BF or COD game :-/.

I also picked up AC4 and NBA 2K14... Both of which have earned high marks on the PS4 already. And I'll be downloading Resogun and purchasing Need for Speed Rivals... both of which have also received high praise already.

I don't think the launch is depressing at all... not from one game disappointment.

Are there One exclusives you're excited about playing? If so, jump. If not, keep your PS4 pre-order or cancel it.

Launch software will be launch software.

Some people have reported hardware issues. 5 that I'm aware of across multiple websites. Not exactly a large portion, but they are there. Launch hardware is more prone to issues than hardware manufactured 6 months from now. It's highly unlikely you'll have issues but it's possible, just as it is with any electronics you buy.

@Dreams-Visions: The only thing I would be super excited about on Xbox is Forza ... but I'm not sure if I'd be $500 minus free games from PSN excited.

Its par for the course with a new console launch. Do you really think the xbox one will do any better at launch? Just relax. Try to make smart informed decisions. Hell, i bought the digital version of Knack on PSN, lol. Think i can get a refund? probably not. I wont even download it or install it to my PS4. But, its my fault for jumping the gun and not waiting for reviews. I am sure Killzone will be a good game. The multiplayer portions should be just fine. Even the single player campaign should be fine just for the visuals alone. Its the beginning...things are bound to be a little rough around the edges. Stop worrying, everything will be fine.

Maybe the only way to stifle my depression would be to pick up AC4 and FIFA 14 also right before my wife kills me.

I got killzone sf, bf4, fifa 14, and ac black flag today. Seriously can't wait for my console on Friday.

If you are really worried about the console bricking, you do know you have a 1 year warranty just in case.

Don't depend on game reviews too much. I could care less what those games scored.

I just watched the review of knack and it looks like fun but if your not really into it anymore, can you send it back? or maybe trade it in to gamestop or something, ? Maybe get another game.

Right... I plan to play it at least once and then I'll probably trade it in for store credit to pre-order Destiny or buy FIFA 14.

While I was hoping for a solid platformer, I also got mine in the buy 2, get 1 free sale... so if I trade it in or sell it, it'll be like free money towards another game for me. I'm cool with that.

Or maybe just buy one of them (if your wife will fuss about the spending)? Honestly, I think once you started playing Killzone or BF4, you'd find that your "depression" was not warranted in the first place. But adding either one of those games to your playlist will add 10's of hours of fun to your PS4... FIFA 14 would probably give you the most hours of excitement.

killzone isnt mixed at all. it is receiving very favorable reviews, and all have said that the multiplayer is great.

again, people need to get off the bullshit that a game has to be a 9 or 10 to be good.... 7 and 8 games are still very fun, they generally just dont do anything revolutionary.

If you don't want the console, there's no reason to ponder on whether to get it or not when there are plenty of people who want it and won't be able to get one.

@KHAndAnime: first of all, I didn't even preorder it. I just got the games.

Second, I never said I disliked the system. I was asking the general public if I stick with it will I be likely to have a good experience with it.

I don't know how to dicipher really truth and fiction properly I guess in the midst of negative PR, reviews and screaming opposing fan boys.

A part of me is saying maybe I should ignore all of that and trust that a fun experience will come.

I would probably be paranoid for different reasons on both. I know that when at one point I considered Xbox I was sick to my stomach thinking of playing multiplatform games on it because I knew they were going to be better on PS4.

Maybe I'm just looking for encouragement from my fellow gamer community that it's all going to be ok. Lol

I want the PS4 over the opposition too because it is a lot better for me financially.

There are obviously games coming later on.....this is why I don't buy consoles at launch. Everybody feels the need to buy new things ASAP, then they realize they bought into the hype. Just keep it, and wait for the games to come.

You had my empathy until you mentioned buying games before pre-ordering the console. I realize it was to take advantage of the 2/1 sale but why make any purchase for the sake of a deal?

@porkchopxp: Well, I plan to buy one as soon as I can. I was on the fence for a very long time beforehand, then it was too late to preorder.

Next week when something goes wrong with the X1 and 25 threads are created per minute making a big deal out of a "problem" you will feel better about your PS4 purchase.

Other than the case mishaps performance wise it's the way to go!

@SpiderLuke: Naw, stick it out. You hear about broken consoles, but not all the ones that work, so it creates a sense that more of them are breaking than they actually are from a percentage perspective. Also, the PS3 wasn't available for a long, long time after it launched, so don't think that you will be able to just mosey into a shop in a couple of weeks and pick one up. It could be around next Spring before they are widely available. Stick to your guns!

Yeah definitely I almost cancelled my preorder and I'm greatful that I didn't so I will have mine in the early morning. That Need for Speed looks hella sweet!

The launch of the PS4 is just 1 day. There are at least 5/6/7 years of PS4 gaming to be had. You don't buy a console just based on the games at launch. For me I really want the next God of War, Metal Gear Solid, and Kingdom Hearts 3. But none of these games are at launch. Plus another Uncharted will be coming.

I have bought my PS4 at launch but it is for the future I really excited for. None of the 4 games I have bought at launch are the ones I am waiting for. Launch games are just that Launch games out of 22 you must be able to find something to tide you over until the series/franchise you want on PS4 arrive. For me none of my favorites are at launch. Not even the traditional Ridge Racer. Which up to this point was a launch staple. But I guess Kaz didn't live that one down after last launch of PS3.

But I shall enjoy the PS4 even if the launch games contain none of my favorite series. They will be coming

You buy a console when it has the software to make it a worthy purchase.

Buying a console because it may have something you're interested in down the line is idiotic. That means you're paying the highest possible price just so you have the privilege to wait until it has something you want to play.

As I said before, I didn't mean to sound so cold but it's just frustrating to see how people are so easily swayed by the media nowdays.

I'm not saying be closed minded or ignore reports, but we should show a better sense of independent or at least balanced thinking. :)
