I'm getting a new TV for my room as well as a new gaming console, more specifically a PS console, because I own the Xbox One and hate it. I'm thinking of getting the PS4 Slim and a regular 1080p TV as I'm not really interested in 4k gaming, but I'm also hearing that if you don't own a PS4 at all then getting the PS4 Pro is the way to go? So should I get the PS4 Pro or PS4 Slim with a regular 1080p TV? Is it worth it to get the PS4 Pro for 1080p TV?

I don't own a Pro, but I would definitely get one if I were buying a PS4 for the first time, even without a 4K TV. Only certain games can actually run in higher resolutions, and even then the framerates will be lower and they will be upscaled or whatever anyway. I'd take more consistent 1080p/60fps or even a steady 30fps in games that struggle to run even that on the standard PS4 like Just Cause 3.

ps4 pro has boost mode for non patched games that improves fps on 1080p tv.

ps4 pro has several patched games to run 1080p 60fps (if you play nioh you will love 1080p 60fps action mode on ps4 pro).

I play my ps4 pro always 1080p (patched to 60fps or simply boost mode for improved fps)

If gaming is a hobby you enjoy im not sure why anyone wouldn't pay the extra $100 to get something thats as good or better in every way.

Get a ps4 pro even without a 4k TV. I would get a 4K tv when it's on sale on black friday or amazon prime day since the last time it went on sale the cheapest 4k TV was only between 200-300 dollars.

ps4 pro

games with patch can run 1080p 60fps on pro

non patched games can use boost mode to improve fps with some of those reaching more stable fps and some games reaching 60fps mark.

ps4 pro is a great machine for 1080p tv

Talking out of your ass...

Gravity Rush 2 - 30 fps

Dishonored 2 - 30 fps

For Honor - 30 fps

Horizon Zero Dawn - 30 fps

Division - 30 fps

etc etc

Keep lying though, it helps.

@GTR12, i reckon @atomolog used the verb "can" in the meaning of a possibility as can be found in dictionaries... not all of the patched games do run at a higher framerate unless it is indicated, not all of the regular ps4 games run optimal in boost mode... however many games do run better (either framerate-wise or graphics fidelity-wise) on ps4 pro with 1080p resolution either patched or in boost mode... if you do not believe me, just check digitalfoundry videos... :)

@GTR12:

Can you not read?

I said there are games with patch for 1080p 60fps. I also said some (S O M E) games without patch on boost mode reach more stable and/or more fps up to 60fps.

Also even games that run at 30fps on boost mode get rock solid 30fps (unity for example) even in crouds with dozens of npcs around you while on base ps4 fps will go a bit down on busy situations.

Ps4 pro in general is a great 1080p machine

@MondasM: If he had said PS4P patched games get a fps boost AND/OR graphics boost, I wouldn't have said anything, but he only mentioned fps boost, hence my response.

@GTR12: I dont care much about graphics boost. I rather play action mode (more fps option) on ps4 pro at 1080p than pkaying at lower fps for more resolution.

I have bought recently sony bravia w80c series 43 inch because I rather go for better fps than resolution.

Ps4 pro is my first playstation ever and I bought it because of the 1080p fps boost option in % of its games :)

And 50% of people don't care about you.

This topic isn't about you, its about the system, and the system with its SOME patched games can render at a stable/higher fps OR with upgraded graphics.

You can state what you like, but not exploring the other-side of what the console may do doesn't help TC.

If you want improved graphics and have a TV/monitor that can handle it, PS4 Pro is the obvious choice. If you don't care or don't have the right TV, just skip it.

my PS4 i bought last May was just the normal one. i have no 4K tv and really didn't give a shit weather i had one or not. i didn't seen the point in buying one if i have no 4K tv. from what i've heard in some games yeah they can look better, but than you have others where it's not much of a difference. i dunno if i'm right or not.

but i didn't have the patience to wait until the pro came out. i've seen people post online they got rid of their pro and saw screw it and went and got the slim. i dunno which one is better but mine isn't the slim. i guess do some research on what is better and make up your own mind. personally i wanted the system for the games and not how they look. but to each their own. please let us know what you do decide to buy cause i am curious now. i dunno about PS4 being dead all the pro is, is an updated version of it that's all.

i heard somewhere on the net that the ps4 slim has a habit of overheating. i dunno how true that is to be honest. the scorpio though isn't out yet to be fair. i have no idea myself if i ever will get a scorpio or a PS5 if they DO ever come out with one. i may one day get a switch but just NOT yet since i haven't had my pS4 even a year yet.
