We have found out that there has been a possibility of unauthorized access to personal information on the PLAYSTATION®Store through PCs, a content download service of the PLAYSTATION®Network. Although unlikely, it is possible that the passwords of a small percentage of PLAYSTATION Network users may have been changed through unauthorized access, making it possible to view users' personal information and/or use the Wallet for the PLAYSTATION Store. PLAYSTATION Network accounts do not display entire credit card numbers.

We have taken immediate measures to rectify this issue and system security is restored.

We have investigated the extent of unauthorized access and possible alteration of passwords that could have occurred before corrective measures were taken, and are directly contacting customers who may have been affected by this incident. In order to verify that your account is intact, we strongly suggest that PLAYSTATION Network users sign in to the service. If you can successfully sign in with your pre-set password, your account is not affected by this incident.

For additional information and immediate 24 hour online support, click here for the PlayStation Knowledge Center.

I wonder how this could've happened? The PlayStation Network seems pretty secure to me. Even if somebody did hack an account... what would be the purpose? download some quick games? It just seems stupid.

Only the last 4 digits of your card is posted on the PSN account. There is no way for it to be linked to the entire number.

Good to hear that Sony is immediately making consumer aware and communicating what steps they are taking to resolve the issue instead of trying to pretend it didn't happen.

Does it really matter if only the last four are posted? Seriously? Because if they hacked into your account then that means they are signed on as you and can purchase stuff to their own HDD from your card, am I right?

I'm asking because I have yet to buy anything from the PS store but was planning on it sooner or later. I just don't want to become a victim!!! :o

Yeah, it does matter because that limits them to the PSN store. With ALL of the numbers they could go anywhere on the internet. If you've never bought anything then you probably don't even have a card tied to your acct., right? I've bought lots of stuff off of the store.

Lol i see why everyone makes fun of yall. No one can hack the psn accounts. Its not really hacking if you got this letter in your name then you can get hacked. (l) Its not a hack. They just made your again using a symbol. On ps3 a capital I is a lowercase L. (l) and (I). On ps3 I is this l. You didnt get hack your just one of them noobs who spend all damn day just to find out that you got OWNED by someone who outsmarted you. Thats why when they send you a message using a name that looks like your it will let you add them as a friend. Its because its not your account you just think it is. My psn is SF_Tryouts

Lol, it probably is some nerd. I remember I got a PM from somebody saying the same thing. I went into a building a killed a load of ppl. Then planted bombs on two stairs, then one person got blown up from each one of them, and every time he respawned he went straight into the building I was in and I killed him about 10 times, which included four stabbings. It didn't occur to him that I already killed everyone in that building and they were all after me, and by the end of the game I got about 34 kills. He wouldn't stop sending me private messages on how much of a f@ggot I was (no doubt I bet he was some skinny little geek who I'd knock out in real life). But I definetely saw the funny side.

this is true. only the last four digits are reveiled just so the subscriber knows which credit card they used. noone can use your info other than to DL games and addons onto their ps3 and you would know if someone did use your account because there would be a "already purchased or DL'd shopping bag" next to that item. you really have nothing to worry about.

The worst part is that they can probably get all your info and retrieve your PSN ID on their PS3 and download everything you downloaded on their PS3 without you even knowing, since you could share games that way.

I don't understand why people are always so worried about having their accounts hacked. As long as you have a different password to your email, there's no way someone could get full access to you account. If it does happen, just use the 'Forgot Password' function and it will email you your new password. Since the hacker won't know your email password, you can just go on there and change you PSN password. Problem solved
