PSN Players Beware, Firmware 2.53 is killing hundreds of systems

Just wanted to issue a warning to my fellow PSN players, to be mindful if your system starts freezing often. After downloading firmware 2.53 my blu-ray player stopped working and does not read any discs. After going to the sony forum, I realized hundreds of people are experiencing this same problem.

If you have not downloaded 2.53, DONT! It may potentially destroy your blu-ray player, just like it is doing to hundreds of others.

but because i told them i brought the console under 12 months ago, which is a complete lie.

i got a replacement within 3 days :D

My 60 gig had the same problem 3 weeks ago, just got my giftcard from c.city and bought a 80 gig.... Sony is #@!ing up

I tried PS3 games, PS 1 games, Blu-Ray movies and regular dvd's, they are not showing up on the xmb.

It just seems strange that hundreds of people have posted that the exact same problem happened in the same timeframe as everyone else.

I want to get rid of the firmware and try without but full restore does not delete the firmware.

i got my 60gb ps3 in oct 07 for $650 from mumbai...two months later i started getting disc reading problems and the error code - 8001054....i took it to sony and they said they'll give me a NEW one...it took them over a month....and they gave me a previously USED(..and repaired for some problem unknown to me)ps3....i had found existing network settings on it,but decided not to complain as it was working fine and i was over a month without it....they did not renew or extend the warranty either(I DONT KNOW IF THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO)....now one year after that....im getting the same problem....now,what sony has to say is that they cannot even repair this model....i cannot understand why(i know the 60gb model is discontinued)....they are willing to give me a 50% discount on a "new model"....the representative was unclear abt which model she was talking abt....i was not interested in a new model cause even the 80gig model has the issue with this same error code....even though i like it soo much,i dont feel the need to pay for a new model even if it is half price..everytime this happens.

i was wondering if anybody new abt the sony policy or have had a similar problem...and what they did about it....also....why doesnt sony do something about this error code?....it seems like many people have it...ive got it twice in a span of 1 year.i also have come to understand that their policy is to give a refurbished ps3 if there's a problem...thats ok...some communication issues wit the representative,we have idiots or people who think they're too smart as representatives i guess...no problem for sony....problem for me

I'm little surprised to this news, I have had 2.53 since the first day it was released and haven't experienced any issues.

when i downloaded 2.10 version from my ps3 i had the same problem. i told it to sony and they told me that that the HDD damaged (virus) fortunately i bought my ps3 7 months before this happen and they give another. since that day i download the filmware update from my pc and i never had a problem since then

2.53 came out when? and now ppl are reporting problems?

I will be receiving by PS3 in the very near future. Does it come with this update installed? If not, is there a way to play on and off-line without installing it if it is that buggy?

The first issue I had with a ps3 was an optical issue, now my ps3 has completely died. It acts like its going to turn itself on, then it goes to a yellow light and then a blinking red light. Anyone had this happen?siefier25

Do you need a warranty to turn the ps3 back in?

B/c I bought my ps3 from a friend, and he has no warranty...so am I screwed if this happens to me?
