What do you guys think with this article from Yahoo? Do YOU think the PSP is dying?
It is not dying at all. In 2009 there are tons of new games coming out, giving us plenty to look forward to. The PSP is so many things, giving us much to do while we wait, and its portable with all things included: Browser, Music, Videos, Themes, etc. I love my PSP, I'd never get rid of it.
The fact is the sales of PSP are slow only because 2008 didn't give as much as it should have, and because Sony is focusing more on ending their pirating issue rather then focusing on their sales and more importantly their upgrades for the PSP. They need to come out with better PSP systems, rather then doing minor upgrades with the PSP 3000 that didn't even work right (scanlines! AND DON'T SAY THEY AREN'T THERE. You're blind if you don't see them)!
2009 is promising new and more inventive ways to increase the PSP importance. In Japan they are selling like crazy, because of Dissida and new games going out. Reistance Retriubution, Phantasy Star Portable, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Mytran Wars, Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, etc. are all coming out next year for us.
Also, why would we want a touchscreen? They're dirty, they break too easily, far too fragile, hard to hold the game and use the touch screen at the same time, and they're expensive. I am so happy Sony does not implant a touchscreen into the PSP. I'd toss my PSP out the window if they implanted a touchscreen!
Also the DS and Wii are family orintated gaming devices for casual gamers. Of course its going to do well! Plus they make games just to make games, people are going to buy them cause they are cheap in and in a great supply!
Edit:
Look at the releases for 2009! A LOT OF THEM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psp_games
It's clearly not dying, only blind people would think it is. The DS only has so many sales because Nintendo stops production a lot, for that reason, and they have a lot of crappy third party titles that people who don't know what they are doing buy.
The PSP has many excellent titles, and rarely any bad ones. Next year they have a whole slew of wonderful sounding/looking games set for release.
Don't be misinformed by this guy on Yahoo who does not have one clue of what he is talking about.
As a PSP Fanboy (used to be), I really hate to say this but 2009 might mark PSP's end. Don't get me wrong... my PSP served me well and I had some memorable gaming experience with it. I just found myself playing my wife's DS more often now because I got sick of the dull games (and the lack thereof) and PSN games that I've already played before.
Now I can honestly admit that the only reason I'm still using my PSP is Tekken DR every now and then. And NO, I'm not using it as a bulky media player (I have my iPod for that matter). I find my self longing for games like Phoenix Wright series, Castlevania (OoE,DoS,PoR), Final Fantasy REMAKES, Prof. Layton, and all those games with "lame"(as immature guys put it) graphics which by the way comes with GREAT gameplay that PSP couldn't and probably will never deliver.
Oh, my shiny Piano Black PSP, please prove me wrong and tell me that we'll spend more time together this coming year. If only you can CONSTANTLY come up with Crisis Core and Chains of Olympus quality of games then I'll be happy to give you another chance to be my companion during the dull hours of my days.
And yes, go ahead and hit me because I'm a traitor who turned my back on the PSP but as of yet, DS got my lovin'!
Cheers, mates!
Have you been doing your reading up on News? Next year we have tons of games for the PSP coming out. Really good ones that I am excited about, and you can import games from other countries with Play-Asia.com. The PSP is not dead, not with the sales in Japan. They are buying the hell out of the PSP because of Dissida. As a PSP Fanboy (used to be), I really hate to say this but 2009 might mark PSP's end.
