PSP end of life cycle is 2008?!

According to Eb Games PSP is only getting just over 20 titles this year alone with no new IPs showing up anytime soon.

I called in looking for PSP version of Samurai Showdown Anthology and the manager looked and said to me that he was shocked to see that only just over 20 titles would be making it to shelves this year alone. With Sony's dropping of the UMD disc and pulling out does this also mean that the psp is doomed to be another failed but brilliant system?

I asked a few more questions as Eb heads always go to the latest electronic consumer shows where companies show off the latest IP's and give out valuable info on upcomming or planned titles for each system. What I was told shocked me and I am hoping it remains untruthful that Sony after 2008 will be dropping the psp in favor of a newer portable unit that will battle nintendo's mammoth DS portable console and its ever growing list of games.

I had just recently purchased a silver psp (Daxter edition) and love its versitility and portability along with the sat radio and MP3 as well as WMA playback. I am going to be very dissapointed in sony if they pull the plug on the psp right while it is finally getting decent titles that are matching up to actual console quality aka God Of War COO and Final Fantasy CC.

Its a sad state when us gamers are powerless to stop the neverending pursuit of companies pulling the plug on things like the psp right when we have grown to enjoy the new features and games that are now beginning to trickle out.

I really hope so that they don't...this little system really packs a punch for the price tag on it and the games comming out are pretty wicked looking and play pretty damn good. The sped up load times on the new psp is a plus and its cool to sit and play games like god of war or rpg titles like Brave story on a bus or a train...heck I play it on my lunch breaks at work (Nothing beats a game of powerstone while wolfing down your lunch at work).

So in truth I hope more games come out and that this is all just a load of useless info I got from an unreliable source.

I seriously doubt they would have come out with the PSP Slim in all the different versions last year (which sold very well), as well as the red Kratos one this summer, and bring out games like GOW and Crisis Core if they were planning on axing the system any time soon. If it's time for any Sony system to go, it's the PS2, and that's only so the focus can be on the PS3.ItsEvolution

its due to all the good games ds has , gba bc the low price and more , look at how long nintendos been in the handheld business /console business

hand helds do not sell for their graphics

it has to appeal to many thats what gb-dslite does some say graphics help. well with a console yea but not a hand held much less a disc format those eat batterry life more then dses carts and 64 bit graphics , and a high price also turns people away as you see only loyal sony fans have a psp i my self thought psp was gonna be sonys success story,, its not,, face the truth already, we see the sales i like the psp but i like the ds lite far more, as im traveling i dont want to have my console die on me , in 3 hours a trip to california takes more then 3 hours , in the car, so ya, i rather have my ds lite which has far enough battery life then psp ,,

so the person who said they hate nintendo to bad, thaT WONT change the facts that nintendos wii and nintendos ds lite has been a run away success since their launches we know nintendo in the handheld market enough faced enough compition ,, sony gave it all they had, you must agree to give credit when credit is due i mean look at it , its still a success , sony never said they wanted to take nintendo down ,, believe me they could have easily done so but they had the ps3 coming , i believe consoles is sonys main market, nintendos is both , regardless , they started making both popular , but again sony gave it all it could at least psp was able to last, if it does in deed leave

it would mark the first good attempt ,, 11 have tried all 11 dropped out less then a yr -2 yr run , so right away , sony and nintendo are both high profile companies that had their fair share of success ,

look at the console market which 2 companies have ever reached the top

it wasnt microsoft they were there for 1 yr ,,, but the others have taken in 2 whole gens a piece and with nintendo working on its 3rd ,, i give credit to sony, they created some goods also some bads as did nintendo ,

There's no reason to axe the PSP so soon. The DS is a "Monster" because Nintendo's firmest footing lies in its handheld systems. An upgraded or brand new Sony Hand Held Gaming Console would probably exasperate things for Sony.

That said... were it B/C with PSP games... I'd probably get one. But I highly doubt it because the UMD would be one of the first items on the upgrade / replace list... Unless, of course... it is updated into a BluRay UMD.

People that work in EB or gamestop tend to not know much (I have met some really cool people though, but the majority I talk to are annoying and uninformed)

check out the PSP phone. i heard its real and it was featured in a magazine but not sure if its ACTUALLY real. but from what i heard it will take over the current pspdeffCOM5

Those pictures were fake, psp slim IS the new psp. I second what lightdarksamus wrote, you can't trust those game stores, when I went to Gamestop to buy Patapon when it officially came out they said they have no idea what I was talking about..then after a few hours I went back they had it....
