I'm getting the PSP for the first time. (Already ordered Crisis Core, Portable Ops, and Socom 2 in a game lot dirt cheap from ebay)

I'm buying ten games right off the bat. Among the research and factoring in the importance of a diverse gaming experience I have made a list (The first two tiers are the games I feel will make me the happiest gamer)

Tier 1

1) Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars

2) Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker

3) Little Big Planet (have a gf, unique experience)

4) Valkyrie Chronichles II

5) Patopon 2 (gf game, rhythem game) Rated #1 in IGN's top 25 psp games of all time

Tier 2

1) Arctic Edge (played demo on ps3 years ago...it was sick)

2) Wipeout pulse (alternate racing experience)

3) Resistance (online shooter)

4) Tomb Raider Anniversary (nostalgia... and you kill dinosaurs...unique gaming experience)

5) Loco Roco 2 (Looks super annoying but makes the cut....same devs as patapon 2...edges out rock band unplugged)

Tier 3 (afterthoughts)

1) God of War (button masher...and frantic as heck...could play doped up and my mind would have the same neural activity) rated 1 of tier 3 because it is seen by many as the greatest.

2) Dissidia- Fighting games not so much my thing. Love the FF Series

3) Half minute hero (thx for advice replaced unplugged)

4) Tekken 6 (nostalgia)

5) Lumines (replaced pixel junk, thx for advice)

How do you like this estimate? I used to be a gamer (about 3 years ago). Are there some experiences here (GOW) that I'm just dead wrong in? Any game you'd add to break the top ten in order to give a great experience. Fun Factor is 75% while unique experience is 25% roughly when deciding what makes the cut. Smart gmaers out there....what is your definitve top 10? When you type that in in google many varying and poorly chosen lists (in my judgement)come up.

Pretty decent list for never having owned the system... just a few glaring omissions...

Persona 3 Portable - I can understand if you're not into RPGs, but this is definitely a tier 1 game in its genre
DJ Max - a system-defining series of games imho, lol. Unplugged is crap by comparison. Unfortunately, the best ones have to be imorted... don't touch Fever. I'd pick up Hot Tunes as perhaps the most complete and representative PSP game in the series...
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - another system-defining series... for some time a PSP exclusive. A very consuming game if you can get into it.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together- the best SRPG on the PSP... and the PSP has a good selection of SRPGs

I'd also look at...
Half-Minute Hero
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Lumines(notable launch title)
Ys Oath in Felghana&Ys Seven

(I think the Patapon games are crap btw... I don't like to see it in your top 5, lol)

Good list, but swap get Gods Eater Burst instead of Monster Hunter. Combat is much more fun.

Thanks for replie. I am very wowed by persona 3 and monster hunter but they are too time consuming. Persona 3 could make the cut if the story was in the league of Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid. Too me it seems like its too emo Anime. (FF gets emo but visuals are a compensating factor, plus intangibles) FF Crisis Core has a shorter campaign going for it which I like a lot since I'm trying to get experiences that get to the point. I've heard from a couple credible sources how much they think patapon is crap and it makes me cautious.

Tier 1

1) Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars

2) Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker

3) Little Big Planet (have a gf, unique experience)

4) Valkyrie Chronichles II

5) Arctic Edge (very cool experience)

Tier 2

1) Patapn 2 Rated #1 in IGN top 25

2) Wipeout pulse (alternate racing experience)

3) Tomb Raider Anniversary (nostalgia... and you kill dinosaurs...unique gaming experience)

4) Resistance (online shooter)

5) Dissidia (new one) (just for its intricacies) not traditional fighter. If the upgrades/customizations/unlocks feel anything like FF leveling up system it will continously be a fresh experience. Plus may instanty download FF6, 7, & 8 on my psp (have not played 6 or 8)

Thx for all feed back. Will prob buy tier 1 first. And if I thirst for more....grab the successive tiers

P3P isn't emo at all. The characters are very realistic(other than the obvious fantasy elements), and most characters aren't over-emotional in most circumstances. Unlike Final Fantasy in almost every way(besides the battle system). It's a very unique game. You could hate RPGs and still love P3P. My sister who hates games also liked it, so it might interest your girlfriend.

If you were a Jak fan, then Daxter is an amazing game, my personal favourite game on PSP thus far. I haven't gotten around to GOW or MGS though. List seems pretty accurate as to what games to start with. I started with a similar list.

Pretty good list, only I would get Tekken DR over 6. If you turn out to like Resistance Retribution, also give the Syhpon Filter games a shot... And if you even remotely like platformers, you should try Daxter, Ratchet and Clank SM, and Secret Agent Clank.

Your lack of Megaman titles disturbs me... Nah, seriously though. Megaman Powered up and Maverick Hunter X are great titles, but not needed right off the bat

Thanks for all advice. Good stuff. Tier 1) GTA CHI Town 2) MGSPeacewalker 3) VC II 4) LBP 5) Wipeout Pulse Tier 2) Patapon II 2) tomb raider anniversary 3) Dissidia 4) Crisis Core 5) MGS Port ops 6) Tekken Dark Ressurection Tier 3) Side scrolling experience that would compete with the likes of Mario: Megaman X and Castevania X Chronicles + FF 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, FF Tactics War of lions. And Resident Evil 2 I think anyone who says PSP isn't worth getting now is nuts. I can get all this via purchaes without case from Amazon at a price of around $125 Once again thanks. Now I even have a side scrolling experience that I can alternate (b/c the old style will get old if I play too much of one game)

edit: Arctic Edge has been scrapped since it has online issues.

In addition you have Burn Zombie (same view as Chi Town wars *compliment), Bionic Commando remixed (sidescroller), and Flow (who knows...I'm sure this game would come in handy on a bad day) * Fat Princess

Which leads me to ask.. What is most therapeutic game for psp? Too bad it doesn't have flower. Soundtrack. Would that mean ff8? I heard the soundtrack is great for that game. Any better?

If you aren't going to shy away for Downloadable titles as well... Pinball heroes is a fun title that you can sink a few minutes or a couple hours into at a time. I bought the pack with the Motorstorm, Modnation, Wipeout and Fat princess tables and got way more than what I paied for out of it. PS1 Classics such as the crash titles if your into platformers. has that side scrolling vibe and all are great fun. Another personal favorite of mine (and kind of a secret shame) is Toy Story 2, though that carries a Super Mario 64 esque vibe. PS1 imports such as Gaiaseed if you want a SHMUP, and they have the first 3 megaman titles on there. Pac-Man championship edition for a great, cheap time waster.
