Well it's possible that the game could have had better graphics. Expecting every 3d psp game to have ps2 like graphics is crazy.  I'm guessing that psp is potentially capable of creating graphics somewhere between dreamcast and ps2.

You're right test drive unlimited is not that impressive looking at all, but like the previous poster was saying, some games don't utilize the psp as well as others. If you want to see some evidence of games coming close to ps2 like graphics check out tekken or syphon filter.

Its been said PSP pixel for pixel is a better machine than PS2 and considering some developer comments (Paraphrased: "We'll be doing some things people thought were only possible on next-gen consoles") I'm betting its more a matter of utilization. Some of the earlier PSP titles still look darn good and upcoming games are looking even better, God of War for instance should really be a showcase of the system.

The PSP uses graphics comparable to OpenGL games made in 1999-2002. Don't expect the PSP to run on DirectX9c

yeah...many pssp games do not look as good as the ps2. BUt daxter, R&C, Final fantasy 7 crisis core, Monster hunter freedom...look damn good on the psp, maybe better. Sso, it is up to the devs sto really use all psp raw power.

Bump! Wicked thread. PSP graphics are a matter of utilisation on the developers behalf. As stated above, some of the games have graphics that truly rival the PS2 but then others just look terrible (in comparison, they're still pretty nuts for a handheld) I guess for those games that don't look as good, its a matter of remembering how little system resources the developers have to play with, what's the PSP's internal RAM? Isn't it like 24 mb? or 54? can't remember of the top of my head ... I'd say they sit somewhere in between the DC and PS2, which is a huge achievement for a handheld. Star Wars Lethal Alliance is "based on UNREAL technology" which puts it pretty bl00dy old .... But then games like MACH and R&C Size Matters look phenominal ....

Then it is the developers. It is not sony's or the psp's fault.

I would agree that the graphics on the PSP fall somewhere between the PS2 and the Dreamcast.   I think that the PSP maxed out in graphic capability can go toe to toe with some of the best that the PS2 can offer.  I can't wait to see a God of War on the PSP.  I think the key is for developers to play to the strengths of the psp, instead of doing PS2 ports.

I too would like to stop seeing all the ports to the PSP and more games that are original to the PSP.  I remember back with my first Gameboy with all the games it had that weren't on my NES at that time.  But now it seems like all the original content shows up once and then is just ported to every other system.

I think this year could be good for the PSP though.  The Obivilion game to me looks like it could be a lot of fun.  I think God of War for the PSP will be the the killer app for it.  And it will be an original story line and all, not just a port of the great God of War I and II.

Graphics wise though I've always been pleased with the games and the looks of them.  Yeah I agree we do get games more so then not and not just on the PSP that are rushed out the door and aren't polished as much as they should be.  Or games that are optomized for the system.  Again it's that whole Q&A that is missing a lot now I think.

It probally does have equal graphics, but they will probally have to cut the quality down to fit on to a UMD.

PSP is a PS1.75ish. In some cases the games depending on the developers can look equal or better than their PS2 counterparts but that is very rare. Examples of this would be Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and Tekken: Dark Resurrection (best graphics by far on the PSP). Tekken looks amazing and other than a few minor things the graphics are just about perfect.

Unless you dislike fighting games in general Tekken is a must especially given that it might be the best game on the PSP. Just tested out the Ad-Hoc with a friend today. Just some awesome gameplay when it is versus mode. Lag was mostly not an issue and it still looked fantastic.

Crisis Core is supposed to have some incredible graphics according to ign. They commonted on the demo last December and claimed that Square-Enix hs uncovered some hidden power of the PSP. Man, I wish they would release that demo.

Yes, I did see it. It just makes me more impatient. I've been waiting two years for this game, it had better be worth it.
