Am 27 and had the PSP since last september and have some 20 games on it and really enjoy most of them... I think PSP is a great portable but last Saturday got Patapon and I became addicted to it..

Such a simple idea yet its so much fun... Is it just me or Patapon is one of those gems which are simple yet so involving which makes you wonder if with a few more of these games PSP would get a bigger share in the handheld market and be even more successful...

I think games for handhelds should be more simple and easy to play rather than having PS2 look-alike games ported on it...

Btw I enjoyed games such as Locoroco too :)

I have yet to purchase LocoRoco, but I do have the demo installed. the only reason I keep it, is to listen to the little guys make their screaming noises when you split them apart, and pull them together, along with them singing the entire time. It's priceless.

I do believe the PSP needs some games like those on the DS that are more casual, and unique rather then just porting PS2 games over, and going for the best graphics, instead of addicting gameplay/ mechanics.

Exactly what I meant, the handheld market is different than the home console market... I have a PSP because I enjoy simple fun games....

So i would rather buy a nice retro-game like G&G or Castlevania than the PSP version of Tomb Raider... PSP has all the capabilities of running superb games with great visuals but I think it excels when devs release creative and original games which are meant for it rather than simple ports..

Mind you I like Syphon Filter games or MGS games but man I do like Worms or Luminees on PSP, they're so much fun :)

I agree with you completely. I would MUCH rather be in the situation where if im going to be out and about, or just using my handheld, I want an experience I most likely can't get off my PC or my PS3. I was unique and simplistic gameplay, fun visuals, something that sets it apart from me just sitting down in front of my TV or Monitor.

I believe we are starting to see that change though, to the more casual style games becomming more popular to develop. That's a good thing. The PSP will also hopefully take advantage of more PSP-PS3 interactivity. But that's just my wishful thinking :)

Nice to know someone else out there has some same ideas as I do. :D

PS. Yes, I have Worms: Open Warfare 2, and it's a BLAST!

I share your same ideas, and am sure many others do.... Probably Sony thought that giving a near same experience on the PSP as any other home console would appeal more to consumers but seems its learning now...

The PSP is the only non Nintendo handheld to have gained a huge success, though still Nintendo is dominant, however this year it will be a bit tougher for the DS... We already got games such as Patapon, and next month releases like GOW & FF Crysis Core will most definately show off the PSP's capabilities... Tastes are varied but by releasing fun original titles Sony would send out a message that PSP is not just about superior technology but mainly its meant for FUN...

I've never played Lumines, but it looks quite interesting.

What one would be better to purchase? 1 or 2? and why :)

I'm addicted to Monster Hunter Freedom 2 + Puzzle Quest at the moment :P

I wouldn't define games such as Locoroco of Patapon childish, they are just original ideas meant for fun... Obviously GOW will be great and will definately get it on PSP... However my point was that handhelds should be more about fun games or else games designed for them rather than slightly inferior Console ports...

yeah this could explain why I've my games piled up . I don't wanna go through all of the stages all by myself.

I mean it's so much fun when playing a long adventure game with a company along the way. Something that couldn't be achieved with the PSP given the small screen , and even if you connected it with a TV it wouldn't be as great as the experience of playing a console game

Man i must be one of the few people who dislike patapon however i can see why so many enjoy it.

I'm more a fan of the GTA's and syphon filter games so i guess the psp is the perfect handheld for any gamer as the psp has great games covering all genres.

I love the PSP in everyway. I like playing simple games like LocoRoco, or more complex games like Monster Hunter: Freedom. I have 99 UMD games, and FF: Crisis Core will be number 100. I don't want the PSP to start getting games that are more like the DS though,...I sold my DS Lite and games for this reason alone. I like the PSP because its the first system to really put the whole console experience in your hands and on the go...The DS has mostly low-quality games or childish games/games so simple they bore me to pieces. Don't get me wrong, Zelda: PH, Final Fantasy III, and Mario Kart are all great....but once I was done with those, the system had to go. If anything, Nintendo should try being more like the PSP...I'd much rather see more games like Mario 64 on the DS over Brain Age, Dogz, or other crap like that ;)

You know just because something has a cartoony art style doesn't mean it's childish.

That said I'm 26 and I'm loving Patapon. It's a very original idea that's executed almost perfectly and one of the better games I've played in a month or two and I play alot of games.

I agree I would rather have a 2D game on a handheld then a 3D game. Except maybe for GoW. But yeah overall 2d games on handhelds are better.

And I would love to have every PS2 game ported to PSP, I don't care If I've already played them, just imagine something like Shadow of the Colossus or Devil May Cry on PSP, OMG It would be so sweet

don't get me wrong--games like Patapon are great and inovative and awesome for on the go, but I love the fact that PSP isn't all kiddie/puzzle/cartoonish games. It's a nice contrast to what's already offered by the DS.

I respect everyone's opinion, that's what forums are for :)

The DS' games library consists of childish games I agree, my point was not that PSP must go in that direction, just that I want devs to be creative when it comes to PSP games... Being mature or childish makes no difference, people have different tastes so the more varied the games are the better for everyone...

I will get GOW on my PSP no doubts about that, but I would be the first to get games like sequel to Patapon or Locoroco... Also I think 2D adventure / platform games are great on the PSP...

It might sound simple to you but business wise it's stupid not to mention just plain wrong.

It should be something like this.

PSP = Simple pick up and play games, Kids games, Complex hardcore games, Mature games, and everything in between.

The PSP wasn't just designed for mature gamers it was designed for all gamers. Keep in mind being mature has nothing to do with what kind of games you play. You can play mature titles and still be very immature or visa vera. Don't generalize.

I didnt generalize , and yes it is for everyone but at the same time it is known for the more mature system. it is more of a high tech entertainment system as teh DS is just a gaming system..obviously you took what I said wrong so calm down and re read what I said, most games for the psp are more mature games and vise versa for the DS

Dude, I don't want to go back and forth with you. No matter what I say you're still going to think what you think but I'll go ahead and explain it to you.

Sony did make an amazing handheld multi-media wonder. It is complex and the more advanced of the two current gen handhelds. It was not made just for mature games and/or gamers.

Naturally Sony would want the PSP in the hands of as many people as possible. right? More money in their pockets is kinda the point of being in business.

So if somebody bought a PSP for only pics, movies, music, and wireless internet but had no intentions to play games your saying it wasn't made for them?

There are plenty of simple pick up and play games for the PSP so if somebody bought a PSP and only played those simple games, you're saying the PSP was not designed with them in mind?

If it was designed exclusivly for the hardcore mature gamer, developers wouldn't make great games like Patapon and Sony wouldn't have a huge marketing push for those titles. Ever visit the Sony Blog? They post about Patapon all the time.

I just think you have a closed minded veiw of what the PSP should be and what you think it was designed for.

Just drop it.

I've played both Loco Roco and Patapon and find the more involved console-style games a lot more fun and engaging, at least the ones that are done well. Patapon just gets on my nerves :(

My favorite thing to do on PSP is to buy retro game compilations, sure the graphics are quite old, but the games are awesome for quick play sessions as the games are meant to be beaten in one sitting. It still baffles me how i can how have a full arcade game in my pocket.

Since when is Mature games = Fun?

My favorite game of all time is a childish game by the name of Chu Chu Rocket (DC) and seems really kiddy to me... PSP has to get more retro games such as castlevania and the such... And get more games from Sega that arnt from the Sonic team (which basically sold their soul after SA2) for games like a Panzer dragoon and Chu chu rocket, Space Channel 5 and the such (all which are nearly kiddy games but soo good.)
