If you mean Max Media manager then i would, if you mean the offical sony one, then i wouldn't i had that for a while but obviously they only let you do so much with your PSP. Just go for it anyways

and someone said that the official sony one can convert videos to the psp formats, is that true?

PSP Video 9 is a perfectly good application. I don't know why anyone would want anything else.
