It's not hard to realise that the DS is all bout fun and for kids really. Whereas you've got PSP which has both puzzlers like crush and etc and is serious also. I have a PSP and have had a DS and seriously advice for you to get a PSP if you want one of the both!

First of all the PSP is ALOT more versatile, games, music, video, internet and so on..

The DS hold some really great games, such as Zelda, Metroid and Super Mario.

However the PSP also has alot of games, and the fact that there are more to work with technically.

It probably harder to make games for the DS with the stylus and all, so expect more games for the PSP.

I have them both. I don't regret buying either.

i get soo annoyed when everyone asks should i get a psp? and puts it in the psp forum and which one is better ds or psp? if you go in psp forum most likely the sony freaks and fans will say psp and if you say in ds thread the nintendo fans and freaks will say ds

in other words,WRONG FORUM!

system wars

gosh this annoys me SO SO SO much i can't hardly find a thread that deals with games only should i get a psp or should i get ds or psp .. so go to system wars

anyways

psp is something for long trips that might take 1+ hour and is usualy a media entertainment system, videos, movies, music etc.. it's not something on the go like on buses

DS is something for the family and friends usually it's fast good for on the go,buses etc.. it gets pretty boring in my oppinion if you use it too much but if your new to handhelds DS for family and quick plays would be a great choice

but remember if you ask these topics just go to system wars.. system wars is where you put a topic in there like "should i get ds or psp?" and then everyone sonyfreak nintendo freaks xbox freak whatever will make their oppinion on what you should get

quite useful for gamespot to put it in there :D

I hate to say it, but the PSP is WAY better, IMHO. (I post on both forums btw and own both)

The ONLY things the PSP doesn't have that the DS is does, is a touch screen (which is actually one of the best things about the DS), and Mario,Zelda and other Nintendotitles (which is mainly why I got the DS, but there are equivalent platformers on the PSP also).

The PSP has better graphics, better and more games in all game categories, has a free web browser built in, plays back music, movies, and pictures, and you can download free demos from your PSP. And..... GTA!! :-D

When I had a DS i found that it was hard to find games not made for younger children. I think the PSP is suited for the older people but if your into raising dogs and stuff go ds.

I have both and it is very hard to pick one over the other as they both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Pros:

psp:

-better graphics, sound, wider screen

-more functions

-more good games for the mature audience

ds lite:

-innovative touch screen, can do alot of things psp can't

-more fun games for the general audience

-more comfortable to hold

-nice colors

Cons:

psp:

-hard to hold, hand gets tired quickly

-uses battery faster

-bulkier and heavier

-less innovative games

ds lite:

-crappier graphics, although there is a few games with decent graphics, ex. mario kart

OK of course posting this in the PSP forum is going to get you biased answers

I have both and my PSP hasnt been touched in ages. It has lots of potential but for alot more money you dont get much. How many people actually use their PSP for music and movies? Its so hard to take places I find because it feels like it could snap. PSP dosent have 5 good games to mention but there are a few PSP games coming out in the future. I have 14 DS games and they are all great. The DS is not for kids! Games are intended for kids so what is oyur problem. In terms of fun (what games are for) the DS is alot better but for intense action the PSP is better. The DS is best of both worlds. Fun games and some good action ones too.

PSP- Some good games that dont appeal to everyone. If you dont have an MP3 player and have enough momey for a decent sized memory stick its good for music. PSP is more for Hardcore blowing peoples heads off which isnt fun in my opinion

DS- A huge range of good games that keep you busy hours. Touch screen, mic and great sound

Top 5 DS games is hard to say since there is a big choice. 2 of my favourite games of all time are on DS and the games are cheaper.

Dont flame me please

Dont worry, I won't flame you, everyone has their own opinion which is fine. I do have to strongly disagree with you where you said the psp doesn't have 5 good psp games to mention though 'cause that simply isn't true. The DS has a strong library of games but so does the psp. Imo the psp has better games but that's just my opinion. As for action packed games, the psp greatly excels in that genre whereas the ds does greatly lack in it.

I do agree with you though that not all psp games appeal to everyone, a lot of psp games are aimed towards more hardcore gamers alot of ds games are aimed towards people of all ages and casual gamers.

Each system has their ups and downs, so basically you should choose based on what system you are interested in, and look to find out if the games on the psp or the ds appeal more to you. If both systems interest you and you like the look of the games on both the psp and the ds, then you can get both.

I'd just wish you were more specific in your claims, like as to why there aren't 5 good games for the PSP, which genres of games the DS is better at, and which games on your DS you claim are so superior to the PSP library. Just curious...

I love my PSP for it's multimedia features. From a technical standpoint the PSP waaaaay out muscles the DS, but Nintendo is looking at innovation so they don't really compete in the same market. I would suggest looking at the top scoring PSP games vs top scoring DS games and see which ones you like more. I think the PSP is much more action oriented and the DS is more puzzle oriented.

I don't know about DS games, but 5 of my fav PSP games so far are Daxter, Syphon Filter, Burnout Legends, Wipeout, Puzzle Quest (currently addicted to). There's more but you only wanted 5.

OK so people who asked the DS is great mainly for RPGs it dosent strongly lack in action packed games but the games are more simple mainly because of graphics. The DS has alot of its quirky games and things. If you like nintendos big franchises like Zelda pokemon and mario then the DS is a good choice but if you prefer the playstation franchises then get PSP. If your just a casual gamer that dosent really prefer either then the DS is probably safer because it is cheaper and game descisions are easyer. The DSes graphics usually turn people away a bit but just remember that 2nd rank graphics dont mean 2nd rank games and the DS has proven that. I feel strongly about the DS since its my fave console of all time. hows about I say what genres are good on each system.

PSP- Tactical shooters and theres lots of good platformers such as Daxter. Serious racing games like need for speed are good also because of graphics power. The PSP has more fighters as of now aswell.

DS- As the GB and GBA have done the DS has briliant RPGs and the touch screen controls work well for RPGs if they are used properly. The controls for FPS on the DS re good but MPH is the only good FPS on the DS at the moment but COD4 will be on it soon. Puzzle games are briliant with the touch screen. I dont like puzzle games but games like meteos are great and youll know why if you ever play it. And of course nintendos usual platformers and things are there. Unfortunately theres isnt many fighters on DS yet but mortal kombat is coming nd hear that importing Jump! Ultimate stars is worth it.

This is as unbiased as I can make it. Heres the top 3 games a recomend on each system

PSP- Daxter, Tekken, Dynasty Warriors

DS- Pokemon Diamond/ Pearl, Mario Kart DS, Meteos.

This is merely a personal opinion. I have had both systems since they were released so I know a bit. I hope this helps :)

yeah, that helps a bit, but you still didn't list any good RPGs for the DS, since you claimed it has so much more better RPGs than the DS? The only ones I can even think of are FF3 and Pokemon, which are very old-school and more for fanboys of those series'. The DS doesn't have one action-RPG that I'm aware of, yet the PSP features great RPGs like Tales of Eternia, Tales of the World, Monster Hunter Freedom 1 and 2, Gurumin, Kingdom of Paradise, and many more.

The PSP also has puzzle games, (which I don't play either), but I guess Lumines, Lemmings and Loco Roco were all pretty high rated.

So, IMHO, it seems the PSP has everything the DS does, plus much more. That's how I see it. Shalom

Each system has there strengths and weaknesses etc.. If i were you i would look at the list of games that are out and coming out for both systems, and which ever system has the most games you are excited for, go with that one. The psp does play music and videos but in all honesty, for me atleast its a drag carrying it in your pockets. I don't bring my psp around with me much, plus i have a Zune to play music, vids, and etc.. I do own apsp and used to own a DS, i don't use my psp much right now.

If it were me i would look at the game lists, but good luck with what ever system you choose. 8)

ahhhh for RPGs there is pokemon, FF3, lunar knights, spectrobes, pokemon ranger, animal crossing and thats just the really good ones

puzzlers are better because of the touch screen. And of course the DS can play GBA games that are cheap but still good and the PSP has no backward compatibility.

The DS feels more portable because simple games are better on the go. Trying to play some PSP games on a car ride is hard.

I had to make the same tough decision a couple of months ago. I've always wanted to get a handheld device because I wanted to play video games on the run, but always decided against it because I chose to spend my money on consoles instead. I found a great deal on a PSP that included Tekken Dark Ressurection for $160. I invested another $70 in a 4 GB Memory Stick Duo and did a little researching online about "unlocking my PSP". Now my PSP is fully "unlocked" and has a ridiculous amount of memory for music, movies, and pictures. I have no regrets about buying my PSP.

I think the Nintendo DS has a fantastic lineup of games; although most appeal to younger kids...Mario Kart, New Super Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy, Metroid, Zelda, and many others...Nintendo has been the king of portable gaming for a long time. The DS is backwards compatible with old Gameboy games too...That should be a factor in your decision if you own a bunch of Gameboy games. Online works very well too...especially Mario Kart.

Both the DS and the PSP have their pros and cons. The one thing that made the decision easy for me was the fact that I could use my PSP to play basically any Super Nintendo game ever made. The Nintendo DS can't do that...I can also take my DVD collection and convert it to PSP format so that I can watch movies on the go. The screen on the PSP is bigger, brighter, and clearer. I can hold a LOT of music on a 4 GB Memory Stick Duo...The PSP is a more technogically advanced device that also has a lot more features.

Finally...last, but not least. The PSP will have God of War: Chains of Olympus by the end of the year. I absolutely love God of War; the thought of being able to play it ANYWHERE makes me want to sing, dance, do backflips, and smile from ear to ear. There is absolutely nothing on the DS that gets me as excited as portable God of War does.

Final Fantasy VII was one of my favorite childhood games. I am highly anticipating Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

DS has more games to play than the PSP, but I don't care. I play Tekken: Dark Ressurection and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (both are excellent games!). When the price drops, I'll buy Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops too...I prefer to spend the majority of my money on PS2 and PS3 games. I love playing games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Contra, Super Metroid, and Super Mario RPG on my PSP. Best of all...I play all these games for FREE!

I love my PSP. If you can afford to invest about $250 on the hardware, memory, accessories, and games, you'll be golden. If you own a PS3 or plan to own one, I also highly reccomend that you get a PSP.

Wait until E3 passes...there is rumor of a redesigned PSP. Maybe Sony will release one. Maybe Sony will finally do something to tighten up the security...Take advantage my friend...the PSP is a sweet piece of hardware.

you have some good points

the PSPs extra features like movies and music arent any good without paying for a better memory stick. I would much rather spend that money on games. If you are willing to pay more money to get everything you can out of the PSP then its great. The DS is simple and easy to get the full effect of without buying extras. The DSes large amount of good games is a good point but the PSP really needs to get alot more good games to compete some more. The PSP has potential that isnt being used. Try and find somewhere where you can try both systems out.

Mostly it depends what you value more. Great graphics with alright gameplay that can keep you busy or great gameplay that is addictive and fun but the graphics arent the best possible.

Im sure whatever one you get you wont be disapointed but that isnt to say you wouldnt be happyer with the other.

yeah he hasn't even responded to any of the posts. the type of games he likes is really important, cause each system has a better genre of games then the other. Ex. DS is great for RPG's, PSP is great for racers.

after owning a psp from day one (it came out on my birthday) i have purchased all the best and underrated games and have come to one conclusion:the ds is what i should have bought.psp is a great and innovative handheld but it just doesnt have that special something that the ds has in spades. i havent touched my psp in days and dont plan on touching it until god of war comes out.if you are reading this please heed my warning. the psp is great but the ds is alot more acessable buy the ds its a gamers dream.no one has bought more psp games than me and im pretty sure that still stands or umd movies.woke up on my birthday scraped up the money and walked over and bought it stared at the box for the thirty minutes before opening it, thats how dedicated i was. ds as a system is more durable and the battery is amazing compared to the psp which seems to die just when you need it.

Of course games are intended for kids. Well originally they were. Im not saying its wrong for older people to play them but they are supposed to be an alternative to sports. Say on a rainy day. I allways got that feeling anyway. How often do you see adults playing tag?

Yeah. I actually came here in the forum when I couldn't decide which system to get. My friend actually told me DS is a better system because of the games. Well it didn't really matter whathe said, I bought the PSP anyway. No regrets so far.

I hope my messages arent coming across as biased. I like PSP but in my view DS is better. im saying its better for this person though. in fact in these situations no one can really help. What games dose this guy like? he hasnt given much for us to work with

hockey73

bleh, name just one "new" RPG for the DS. Yeah, the GBA had tons of RPGs, but i dunno where this talk about the DS having great RPGs is coming from. Besides remakes of OLD games with tireless random encounters and turn-based battles, like FF3 andpokemon, the DS doesn't have ANY original RPGs. Oh, except maybe Lost Magic, which i heard was pretty bad. :-P IMHO, the PSP owns the DS in RPGs with Gurumin, Tales of the World/Eternia, Monster Hunter, Kingdom of Paradise, and more.

yeah he hasn't even responded to any of the posts. the type of games he likes is really important, cause each system has a better genre of games then the other. Ex. DS is great for RPG's, PSP is great for racers.

I'd pick a PSP because you can get internet and it has some really great games, like Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.

I bought a DS in January and haven't played it since. waiting for a good game. New Super mario bros was a joke, I would rather play the original for free.

I'm going to get a psp if Oblivion drops.

I'm selling my DS right now, it's a proof that rightit's just collecting dust eventhough I have great games for it. I find it very hard to play the games for the system because it feels like I'm playing a system that should have been obsolete a couple of years ago. Comparing it to the PSP the PSP is like the nextgen of portables & far far away when it comes to technology & power.

go to a place where u can play each system like EBgames or Best Buy and try them out to see which your more comfortable with. To me each system has great games so its down to comfort.

The DS for classics (zelda, mario, metroid, pokemon, stuff like that) which are all very fun IMO. The PSP for a complete media experiance. I personally like my DS more because i like the games on it more, but thats just IMO

just to say, do u realize how bad Oblivion will be on the PSP? Think about what made that game so great, and the PSP can't do any of it (graphics, HUGE open ended world, each person has their own voice acting, etc)

This is not a hard choice, you need to know what each system offers and what you like better overall after researching what each system does. You need to do your own research, and not ask other people how you should choose.

They're both pretty cool. The PSP is great on paper, but does have flaws. The battery life is rubbish, and the little control stick completely sucks. Its a jack of all trades.....and fails to excel in any of them. I think it needs more games designed just for it, rather than PS2 converted games. Thats the problem for me, when you play it, it feels like a ps2, but not as good.

When you play the DS you can tell the game has been designed around the platform. Trouble is, and nintendo always has ths problem, there just isn't enough good games out there
