An internal hard drive, a second analog nub, different texture, and possibly something to make it less fragile...?

Internal hard-drive... that would be cool, but I bet it would cost too much.

So, I guess that this (http://psp.ign.com/articles/771/771743p1.html) is just going to be totally ignored?

I'll believe it when I see it, Sony hasn't shown it yet there are no pre-order campaigns yet, come on it's been in the rumor mill since the Dslite came out . If as the e3 thing they show it then I'll believe it until I see proof of it, it's a rumor. accept the PSP as it is and enjoy the games it has to offer!

IF they do it, which I'm still not certain they will I definitely don't want an internal HDD, uses too much power. Pretty much what I would want consists of just a few things: 1) Internal NAND, the MSD slot should be retained for BC. 2) Faster UMD drive, I don't particularly hate the load-times but they could improve. 3) Smaller/Lighter...not that big of an issue, but it still takes up too much room in my pocket.

It is a rumor for now, with a little common sense, anyone can see that one day, in the next however many years, a new one will be released. But yeah ... all this speculation that has seen the same forum topics floating around for months and months, and nothing's changed on the scene at all. One huge point to make people. Stop talking about an Internal Hard Drive. There is NO WAY IN HELL that the next PSP will have an internal HDD. What it WILL have guaranteed is an Internal Flash Memory to be used in the same way as a hard-drive. It'll be at least 8GB, and with 32GB memory sticks only a small matter of time away, I'd like to see the next PSP with something more along the lines of the 32GB size. That'll put it in a league of its own in terms of multimedia functionality.

read one post above you Oscar 530. There wont be a hard drive, it'll be internal flash ram, i guess to you it'll work the same as a hard drive, but since hard drives need to spin and flash memory has no moving parts, that is what they'll do. Flash Ram is faster to load and uses less battery life too, but yeah ...

NAND Memory is definitely more expensive, however its also much better for portable devices. Theres numerous reasons iPods crap out so frequently but one of those is that the larger ones use HDDs. Those really aren't meant to be moved while in use, NAND has no such problem (no moving parts) uses less power and allows for more storage within the same space as HDDs. Personally I think you could see NAND replace HDDs in Laptops eventually because of this.

It's already in the process of replacing HDD's. They've developed a single 32GB chip, and it's tiny. Surely within the next year or so we'll see Laptops with hundreds of GB's of flash memory as HDD space. That'll be unreal for performance, size and battery life.

You know, I think Sandisk is releasing a NAND HDD with a theoretical limit of 128GB, currently at 32GB. Is that what you are talking about?

Yeah that's prob what I'm talking about, but the technology is being developed with multiple uses in mind, and will find its way into anything. I read about it a month or so ago in regards to portable multimedia devices, of which the PSP is top dog. And i recall that the theoretical limit was pushed to well over double that, but now I'm only going on what i can remember

An internal hard drive,jts31689

Not happening.

a second analog nub

That wouldn't be a great idea as it would alienate owners of the origional PSP if a game was released that made exclusive use of a second analog nub. It would almost be like releaseing a new handheld system which can play the newest games while the older one can not. In which case, Sony might as well release an entirely new PSP.

different texture

What?

and possibly something to make it less fragile...?

I'm with you there. While I love my PSP, I pretty much baby it to make sure it lasts for some time to come.

Second analog, two more shoulder buttons, and a flip top display like the gameboy advance/ds. More flexible IE connectivity would be cool too.

Some kind of Internal Flash ( Some how I ended up with two 2 GB Memory Stick and its a hassle to interchange for save files ), overall Lighter design ( Taking with me in my backpack, it becomes the weight faction, even beside my school books ), Smaller yet similar profile ( So it could fit in my pocket and not feel different when I hold it ), Better quality Analog Nub and available in ceramic white ( Like my PSP I got in China, except the new PSP can play North American  Movies ) and in the ballpark of the current PSP price ( haha haha, it's Sony, they won't do that for me ). Then maybe I'll trade up for a new PSP.

There will not be a second analog nub and no extra buttons.

Next.

Keep in mind that the new design for psp cant make the old one obsolete. Adding a second analog stick could make many games incompatible with the first psp.

The PSP is perfect. It doesn't need a redesign! Sony Computer Entertainment should spent their time and money on firmware development and stuff :P

I'm not sure how accurate the headline is for that article. It would appear that the statement was in reference to making a PSP with a DS-like interface.

That is impossible nor will it ever happen, that will belong in the category of the PSP2, I believe they plan to do what Apple does with Ipods, and what NIntendo did with DS lite. They plan to change it and make it look nicer but NOT change anything so the games will be the same

Only thing I'd change about the PSP is maybe make it a little lighter, and change the screen a bit. Its impossible to see anything in the sun.... and it would be awesome if the screen was something like those adhesive screen protectors, where they don't scratch and dust and smugdes get wiped out easily.

Other then those, I don't think there's much to improve on

An internal hard drive in a PSP would make it way too expensive.
