I'm considering purchasing a PSP later this fall after I save a little money back from my job. Is the thing really worth it? Does it scratch discs? Does it overheat? Are the games actually enjoyable? Any major frame rate issues? etc.

scratch discs? no.  overheat? no.  Good games? Tons.  That's really the best part psp has an excellent game library and in many genres.  Plus mem sticks are real cheap now so you can get 4 gigs for the price of a game or two gigs for like 20 bucks.  PSP isn't a great mp3 player but its awesome for video - especially movies.  Movies on psp are sooo much better than on like an ipod.  Lovely big screen :)

oh and the good games dont have frame rate issues.  many run at 60fps if you can believe it.

I would get the basic one for $179 then pick up whatever games you want and buy a memory stick online where they are super cheap.  You need AT LEAST a gig but I would either get 2 or 4.  I have a 2 so I'll recomend that :) but if you have a lotta stuff you want on there get 4.

Only you can decide if it's worth it
Scratch? No, but it can shoot em!
Overheat? HAHA, no.
Fun games? Sure, loads of em.
Framerate issues? Not for me, I have custom firmware and I can adjust all that stuff.

I was going to buy one this week and I want to know if there's going to be a new model revealed at E3.

I have heard rumors and before I buy I would like to know any info on the issue???

Rather buy a new version than the old one!!!!

there's good games, but pretty much any PS2-game poser will totally suck because of the controls. even ratchet and clank was sub-par imo. loco roco and lumines are my favorites.
