Hi all, I'm new to this board and to PSP's.

I am a PC gamer but i wanted a hand held as  well. I came to the conclusion that PSP is better then DS (something im sure you all agree with) however i still dont want a PSP because it seems too bulky.

I just googled "PSP 2" and it appears to be that the PSP 2 is a much slimmer version (thats good for me :D).

Does anyone know when the PSP 2 will be coming out and also any advice on if i should wait or not.

Thanks everyone ;)

The "PSP 2" is just a rumor. Nothing at all has been officially confirmed by Sony. I think you should buy one now instead of waiting for something that very well may not happen.

Check this out   http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/rumor-no-denying-it-psp2-is-coming-242845.php

Sounds like maybe the end of the year, at the earliest.  Or, as the other person stated, it might not happen at all.  So it depends how much you're willing to hold out.

It blows my mind how many people say the PSP is 'too bulky'.  It's console quality gaming (and more) in the palm of your hand, for the love of god!!!  Almost the whole thing is screen as it is.  Some people are NEVER happy.

Even if a PSP2 did come out, I highly doubt it would do really well. Sony has a good job of killing its products with the prices.

Well with a hand held games consoles its not always about power. I want to be able to carry the thing around in my back pocket like i could with a DS lite. I was almost about to buy a DS lite untill i thought too myself the PSP can do video, music etc and is awsome quality. Then i thought nintendo released a smaller version of the DS (DS lite) so i bet sony is doing the same and from the rumours it sounds like they are.

Only other thing that makes me want a DS is for exclusive nintendo games but ill be getting a Wii for that.

One thing I do like about DS is the flip-screen.  So if you are carrying it around in your pocket, the screen is protected.  With the PSP you have to worry about getting scratches on the screen, and I'm guessing that's not cheap to replace.  I had a DS, and all in all, the PSP absolutely blows it away, IMO.  I think you're making the right choice.

Thanks fellow friend.:D

Yeah the PSP my not be that bulky but once you put a case on it then its impossible to put it in your pocket and as you said i dont want to scratch the screen.

Hopefully if there is a new one it will either be a flip design or thin enough so that once you put a cover on you can still put it in your pocket.

I am planning on buying the "PSP 2" if it comes out at the end of this year. That said, I currently have the Ds Lite, and its awesome. Plus it will get many awesome games this year to add to its great library. If you can, wait to see if the rumors are true (which they usually are when dealing with new consoles) and buy the Ds Lite with some good games this year. Both are awesome, but if you don't have an ipod/ps2, and don't care about any "PSP 2" I recommend the PSP for now. Just look into the Ds a little moreso.

Actually I disagree with that. I have both and in my opinion, if you want something with a lot of power then yeah the PSP is better. However, if you want something with a great selection of games to play, then the DS really is better. I wouldn't get rid of my PSP, but I am a bit disappointed with it when it comes to the what few decent games are available for it. As far as my PSP is concerned, I really enjoy it's connectability options with the PS2 and (proposed) PS3.

Sounds like maybe the end of the year,

garey017

a whole new redesign released in 7 months? common now, redesign, faster load times, internal memory, these things take time. First they have to create a prototype design, internal circuitry, figure out cost of production, marketing strategy, ect.. Between here and there, sony would have officially released something regarding this new PSP.

PS, This rumor was started because of the recent PSP price drop. It was only part of Sony's change in marketing strategy and due to the fact the PSP is now cheaper to produce. Kudos to Sony for letting the customers share the savings. Nothing more, nothing less! There is however some news coming out from sony regarding improved PSP/PS3 inter-connectivity.

7 months is quick for a redesign, but who knows how much work has already been done?  They could have been working on this for a while, but it's just now starting to stir rumors.  After all, they don't want people to hold off buying the current PSP, so they're going to keep quiet as long as possible.

Absolutely nothing is known about the so-called "PSP 2" aside from that Sony is probably working on some kind of follow-up to PSP as we speak. Anything else you hear is purely rumor and conjecture to quote what companies tend to say about things like that.

Yeah i only said that because this is a PSP board:P

What you just said is the tangle that i am in. Nintendo DS lite has better games and i just love the feeling of a Nintendo hand held because of game-boy. However with a PSP its also like a portable DVD player (apart from you cant put DVD's in it), the screen is huge and you can use it for music.

I am going to wait for more info about the PSP 2 for now and instead i will buy myself a Wii:D

Yeah, but we've been hearing about a followup to the PSP since around mid last-year or earlier and nothing solid has materialized just yet.
