I currently use SUPER to encode videos for my PSP, where the video comes out with a .thm file and the .mp4 file, and they go into the 100mnv01 folder or whatever it's called. when i download video reviews from here, they say it'll work on the PSP, so i dropped the file into the 'videos' folder and it said "unsupported data" when i went to play it. Why is that? is the video folder on the memory stick just useless? I've also got a few more questions if anybody really knows a lot about videos on psp. thanks.

Just use C-net's Download.com its a great site that has free software for justabout everything.

Its my main source for virus protection, video editing and many other useful tools.
Just use PSP as keyword and select the one with the highest user score.

Ah yes...the mess that is the PSP's firmware changes.

If your encoder is making files with a .thm and putting it in one of the /MP_ROOT folders then you are encoding at firmware 1.5-2.x (no idea what x is). In one of the firmware patches Sony created the /VIDEO folder. I use PSP Video 9 and the firmware 3.3+ profile. This creates a movie file with a readable name (ie. the actual title of the video) and a .jpg file for the thumbnail (instead of .thm). These movies work in the /VIDEO folder.

Ok, i guess i'll give psp video 9 a try then, on CNET it got a relatively low reviewer and user score, so that's why i haven't tried it yet. also, i have encoded the vids at 29.97 fps and that's how they play on my computer, but on the psp they look like 15 or less? what's up with that? thanks for your help/knowledge so far btw

No problem. I will admit that the latest version of PSP V9 is less intuitive than the previous, but it's the only one I've found so far that supports Sony's latest firmware features. Plus it's also multithreaded which is fantastic now that multicore CPUs are standard. Unfortunately you have to find the special command option to enter into PSP V9. It's somewhere on their forums.

I'm not sure why your current encode is having problems making PSP movies. I've been converting ever since it came out and I've never had that problem. Mostly I've used PSP V9, although I've also used PSP Video Express (free). I also bought PSP Movie Creator. All of them have created smooth movies for me.

Hmmm...I tried to look up the setting on my copy of PSP V9 and I couldn't find it. I remember putting it in once, but maybe it's on normally now. When you encode pop up a task manager and you should see a progress type graph thing for each core. They should both be busy if multithreading is being used.

Change the resolution of the video using an encoding tool. The maximum standard resolution is 320x240.

Could put a custom firmware with custom codec packs, works wonders. I'm not sure why gamespot hates that so I won't say anymore. Anyway just use handbrake video converter wayyy better than super.
