Is there a way of connecting the psp to a wireless computer, without a wireless router, or any equipment ?

Ah actually yesterday when I responded to your post I did not think of this. I've never tried what you are suggesting but it may actually work, depending on how the psp will react to an ad hoc network from a computer.

-EDIT: well I just brought my psp in and tried it. Unfortunately like I worried, the psp does not seem to detect a computer in ad hoc. So I tried a multiplayer game on the psp, and was able to connect to the psp from the computer. But this by itself does nothing. Because I would still need to assign adresses, but I am unable to assign the psp's address since that would be handled by the game. Anyway, unless I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure this would require an application written for the psp, that would allow for it to connect to an ad hoc network, and allow for manual address settings (I don't think it exists). Or you need software that would run on your computer, and make it function as a router. However, I don't know much about that sort of software, and I have a feeling it may cause some other problems.

So don't read the rest of this post since, it only matters if the first part actually worked, which it does not. Anyway, the short answer would be to get a usb cable

Here is a guide to do it:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx

start at "configuring a host computer" and stop at "configuring a client computer". The host ccomputer being the computer with the wireless card, and the client would be the psp.

Once you follow those steps correctly, scan for a network with your psp, and if it detects the network, then I think things could work if you set up manual address settings.

So if your psp is able to detect the network, then post back and I can give a little run down on how to set up the address stuff. Unless you know how to do that stuff already.

Keep in mind, lets say everything connects. You will still have to run a program called hfs on you computer, and transfers between your computer and psp will be slow. Also, it will be impossible to move things around once you have saved them to the psp. The reason for this, is because the psp does not have a file browser, so you have to make sure to save things to the right spot (if you don't then you won't be able to delete them either). You will also not be able to create folders, due to the same reason. But you can create all neccessary folders by formatting the memory stick. But, this will delete anything you already have on the memory stick.

There is actually another way to connect, that i forgot to mention yesterday, but you would have to buy something anyway.
