Hey guys, so i`ve had my PSP since october 2006, never dropped it to the ground or anything, keep it nice and take good care of it, has Sony`s Official Firmware and all.

Well, it`s been a good 4 Months since it has had this problem, sometimes it wont read UMDs, i hear the noises the reader does, the clicking and spinning, but just wont read it, i tried myself pressing the gray switch and i could see all the movement but no laser, that just sometimes...because sometimes i saw the laser and i could insert the UMD again and begin playing

But it`s been 4 days already and it wond read UMDs anymore, has this ever happened to any of you?

What did you do?,did you get it repaired?, what was the problem?

It happened to me but that was after i dropped it. I got my repaired as it was still under warranty. Your best bet is to get it repaired or buy a new one, But both will cost ya.

Perhaps somebody dropped it without me knowing :/

Anyways, i made a little research, i`ve found this:

http://www.consolezombie.com/PSP/PSP_Laser_Replacement.html

They describe the symptoms, just what my PSP has!

They also say how to repair it, i`ve never done this before, but i think i`ll try since i`m not dumb enough to mess it up, if i screw up i will get it repaired anyways, if not then i`ll buy a Slim.

Thanks for the reply

Check your UMDs as well... I have one cracked (I've bought a case but haven't replaced it) that sometimes the PSP doesn't read. What I do in that case is level the transparent plastic and problem solved, at least momentarily.

All of my UMDs are perfect, except for Tekken, i`ve tried with all of them, but the problem seems to be the Laser Unit.

I`m gonna ask for some tech help next Friday, and see what happens, if not i think i`ll have to buy a Slim ( wich i wanted anyways)

I messed around the White Gear i told you about, but didn`t try again to make it read UMDs, i was Surfing the net last night, i fell asleep, so over the night the battery died, after a full recharge y pressed the gray Trigger and voilà, the Laser lights up again, and it reads UMDs again too.

I still have to remove the faceplate to do some cleaning, because i have never done that, i`m sure it could use some cleaning.

I`d never buy a PSP out of EBAY

Happened to me in November and lasted for months (until like April, actually), ironically, I believe I "fixed" it, but accidentally dropping it while going to school, I checked it out while in homeroom in school, and it began to read UMDs. While I was happy, I was also quite frustrated.

While I probably haven't helped you with your situation, I had a similar situation on a solution, however, I wouldn't recommend this solution myself.

No, it was useful actually, now we have your testimony and mine, that PSP can comeback after that problem

I messed around with the white gear underneath the Laser Unit and Disc Spinner and after a full battery Discharge it works again.

You did it by accident and somehow it made it work again, it should have moved something in the mechanism.

If it`s fixed with that then there`s got to be something loose somewhere, like a cable or something

Thanks for the replies guys
