That all depends on whether you're satisfied with the current PSP. If you feel inferior if or when the PSP2 comes out, then you may not like your PSP anymore. :P But that aside, PSPs will only decrease in price, as will the games, of which there are plenty of great ones. Just look at the PS2, it hasn't been abandoned yet. And the PSP2 is not a phone. The Playstation Phone is a completely different Android-based phone. The PSP2 is something else entirely.

I don't see how this is really a problem...all game consoles have their production life spans...and the real boon is waiting to buy a system until they've worked all the kinks out of it. (Remember the famed 360 problems? Notice how the newer PSPs are faster than the older ones? Notice how the DS Lite is brighter and smaller than the original?) Just play the your system and wait for their 2.0 version of the PSP2 system to come out, it'll work better and probably be less of a hassle to carry with you. It's not until the second incarnation they get a good idea of where they want to go (Remember the fat PSP's infrared sensor that did nothing? Remember how the PSP Slim removed it?). Besides, I played Gameboy Color games up until the DS Lite came out, graphics do not make a game fun, they just make it look pretty. Besides, once the new system comes out, the good games are swapped in to buy the new systems, and you get these things for CHEAP. Megaman Zero is still one of my favorite games, despite it being current last gen Nintendo. Don't despair, just wait for the system to get some great titles and then get it once you find some games on the horizon you really want to play. (It's a lot more satisfying for me to get the system after some research...also why I play my PSP more than my DS, because I found more titles for it I enjoyed.) For me, I waited a good while before I made a move on one of the three home consoles that I wanted, based on the games they offered...I ended up with a PS3 because of Soul Calibur 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Bayonetta, Wipeout, Street Fighter 4, etc. Game selection is a huge thing when it comes to enjoying a system, so just wait until you can get the system when it has the games you want. But for now? Play that PSP to your heart's content, man. Cross that bridge when you come to it.

This is crap. Everyone has something slightly different to say about the PSP2, and most of them are complete utter liars. Until Sony makes an announcement, no one, I repeat, NO ONE can say anything about what the PSP IS or ISN'T. Just say, I heard from [here], or I think that the PSP2 will be etc. Sorry, just sick and tired of hearing people say, "Well, I saw the PSP2 on this site, and they said it sucks! It's got no UMD drive! It's just a Phone!!!!!1111"

Hey, I respect your loyalty to Nintendo and all, but don't tread on me or anyone else here.

You so called 'loyalists' are all alike, acting rashly without bothering to research what you are talking about, starting system wars when there needs to be none.

Man up, do some research from real sources and come back when you can play with the big boys. We'll be waiting with open arms, regardless of what system you play. For some of us, there is no shame in a Computer, Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft gaming console.

Besides...you being a Nintendo fan, that means you're more often than not posting in the Nintendo forums here...that makes you an ambassador of sorts. Good job giving good people bad names.

Finally...I understand you're trying to be badass and all that jazz...but believe me, would you act this way in front of the gal you want to impress? (Or guy for that matter...your profile tells me nothing about who you are as a person, no offense intended in this part.)

I am sure I have read that sony confirmed the psp2 will have the shape of a psp1000/2000/3000. Also I hope it will have it's own physical media. They are working on the battery issues. As long it lasts as long as a psp 3000, I am happy.

Calling a system to be "crap" before even its been released? Please, don't be a fanboy. I think that with the experience both companies have, both of the systems will be good. With that said, IMO the 3DS will rock, just need to look at the list of announced games for the system.

As long as Sony keeps the PS1 classics coming weekly you should never run out of games to play, Xenogears, Threads of fate, an Vagrant Story all in the palm of your hand, those three games or coming 2011 so have no fear.

This. There's no need to complain about new games not being released, when a good deal of them just don't measure up to the new ones.

I'll take nostalgia factor over a risky buy any day.

Even when the PSP2 is out the psn store for the PSP will still be there I assume to buy games from so there will still be plenty of stuff to play but UMDs will be hard to find.

I think Sony will drop the original PSP like a rock. Its already not seeing enough attention, so why spend some on it when their shiny new system will be out. Better start saving kids! Personally I can't wait. I've been gaming the sh** out of my PSPGO.

I find that a bit hard to believe, since they've gradually phased out all their systems with the rise of a new one, the PS2 just shows to have the most love out of them all.

PSP has a lot of games for it, but you have to look for it...it's not the sort of thing they'd do on the PSN store to once the new system launches, BAM, all their PSP1 content is gone. There are still games to be imported here, and some aren't even on the map.

Nintendo keeps their systems well supported until the newer system is big enough on sales to stand on its own. With how Sony started into the game marketbecause of Nintendo backstabbing them with the whole 'Play Station CD Add-on to the Super Nintendo', they take their competitor very seriously. It's not like Sony, with the scorn like that of a woman's (not trying to be sexist here, just saying angry women freak me the f*** out), is not going to make any rash movements until the new system can stand on it's own...sure, it's mimicry to a degree, but it's also sound business thinking.

Besides...the classic games are classics because they're amazing, surely a good deal of the PSP titles out there like Crisis Core, from Square-Enix's massively hyped Final Fantasy VII franchise (don't get me wrong, I played all the games, love 'em to death...I just hate new fans to the series that claim VII is the best without playing any of the other games to properly judge it against the other games in the series)...or like God of War, where testosterone oozes from Kratos' sweaty man boobs...surely, we can milk the nipples of the God of War for more creamy money-in-the-pocket-for-Sony goodness? The PSP has several essential titles for some massive franchises; Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy...and I'm only naming the ones I like.

Sure there are simul releases...but the PSP has not been the target of these things.

Every post of yours is like a Stephen King novel. Anyways, I think since Sonygetting into the handheld market is just gonna make Nintendo work harder. And as rivals go, they're both gonna keep trying to one-up each other. Its gonna be hard to beat glasses-free 3D, because there are a lot of people who wanna experience 3D but not dish out $1000+ for a 3DTV and expensive 3D glasses. This will be a very personal alternative. And dev's are already saying the 3DS can have graphics that look as good as the Xbox 360's, and its not even released yet. And its almost tradition for Sony to always have the better looking everything. So the PSP2 will probably have graphics that look as good as PS3 graphics. And for both systems, when I say look as good, I mean LOOK as good. Theres no possible way(in this day and age) a portable system can have 1080p, blu-ray, visuals AS GOOD as the 360 or PS3, and all that stuff. It just means that with the lower resolution and smaller screens, its harder to see graphical imperfections on a portable.

Thats not a leaked image. Thats a fake image. What I think Sony should do(if they're gonna stick to digitally distributed games) is do a sort of Apple take on things(like the iPod Touch and iPhone). So have the PSPhone and then a PSP which is basically the same thing except without 3G(Wi-Fi only). But thats only if they stick the the PSP Go way of things. But they should definitely dump the UMD's because they drain so much battery. But whatever the outcome is, it'll be good.

That's just a prototype...

...and the article this picture was in says, "There's a newer one, which is a single, non-sliding block. Remember those last Kotaku rumours of the unit overheating? Sony switched back to a form like PSP-1000 in order to cool it down."

Ah bugger, even if that is real (really looks like a PSP Go Proto)...it looks like an alpha version at best, there's no polish in it, no Sony logo...and the thumb-sticks seem to be a little bizarre if we're thinking about gameplay with the core buttons. Even if the console looks that way now, by the time it makes it to beta, it's going to change form again, and even then it's not all in stone. Think back to the PS3 boomerang controller and what not. I wouldn't trust 'leaked' images until we get a few official announcements about it. Speculate all ya want...it's a humdinger of a find to see the actual work-in-progress leaked somewhere on the net. People do tend to get canned over these things.

Seriously, Sony would be stupid to model their next product after a previous design. It wouldn't be a completely "new" console and nobody would buy it. I'm looking forward to the PSP2. I'm not sure about you guys, but I am always open to new technology and I'm sure Sony will make a good PSP2. After all, Nintendo is starting to catch up with technological advances in their DSes, so Sony will have to do the same. Don't hate on something that hasn't been introduced completely yet ;)

*cough*GameBoy Color*cough*GameBoy Light*cough*Atari*cough*PSP 2000*cough*PSP 3000*cough*3DS*cough*

Sorry about that coughing fit...I must be coming down with something.

Just...don't be so quick to judge a company based off your own opinion...history may have something else to say. Companies tend to recycle designs because it's a style, the GameBoy's is iconic because of this. Even current day tech has been using rehashed designs, like Apple with the iPod Touch, iPhone, and (to a lesser degree) the iPad. New designs for products costs money, and sometimes it's smarter just to stick with an old design but up the specs.

Handheld gaming systems are not as much as a highlight as you'd think, since sure, there is a hype for it, the main focus is on the home consoles. Nintendo has been placing more of a focus on their handhelds in recent years, but that's because they established a good solid footing a while ago.

Game companies have done this for ages. They're not going to change now.
