Glad to see Sony putting more effort into online gaming. I always felt ad-hoc should be secondary to online gaming, as it`s a lot harder to find a gaming partner that way. I`m hoping we`ll get something similar, though it may cost us something like what PSN+ is (maybe it`ll be a part of PSN+), though I`m hoping it would be free.
Awesome awesome news.
I'm anxious to see who provides the 3G in the U.S. and if there's a fee for it.
Starting to think I might be able to cancel my 3DS pre-order.
This is japan though, why the hell would they be using outdated 3G? And 4G is becoming widespread this year, why not that?
Sounds awesome, but I don't want to have to pay for a 3G network just to play video games on my PSP2. >.>
The bad news, as I see it, you will have to buy a data plan with a cellular provider in order to use 3G (and isn't everything going 4G anyways). Still, sounds like the PSP2 is changing with the times.jordonjnot necessarily. the kindle, for example, has 3G without a cell provider data plan. i can't think of anything else off the top of my head though. the thing is though if they don't require a monthly data plan then you are going to be subsidizing your 'free' data connection with more expensive downloads.
i doubt it will have 4G, and it has to have wifi. wifi is still faster than 3G and there are a lot of people that may not be in a 3G coverage area or even if they are in a coverage area, might want to play/download while inside a building or somewhere with a bad 3G signal.if it does have 3G/4G, i'm sure it will have wi-fi as well

The difference is the kindle does not use much data. Ebooks are tiny compared to online gaming.

Exactly what the above poster says that the kindle has 3G without a service provider and japan already has similar things in mind. They will use the 3G without providers similar to having a wifi hotspot everywhere. The only thing i cant understand is how theyre going to do this in europe and in the US. We dont have open 3G networks here like they do in japan, and if we do, will it be able to service a game connection?
Seeing how they still included wifi, my guess is that 3G will be optional but not free in the US, and having more optional isnt always a bad thing. If u cant afford the data fee just use wifi, if you can, u get psn connectivity on the go, which makes perfect sense with a portable system. i hated only being able to play multi player psp games if my friends were in the same room or i was playin one of the few true online games, AND was near a wifi spot, which was really only at my house.
With all the those PS3-port demos they had today I wonder how many PS3 games are going to get ported over to PS3.
This system actually sounds intriguing. The screen is probably a little bit too small for good online FPS games though-- like Bad Company 2, MAG, CoD, etc.
considering how much closer you will be to the screen it shouldn't be to bad compared to playing a fps on a console. Unless your used to playing 2 feet away on a 55" tv :)With all the those PS3-port demos they had today I wonder how many PS3 games are going to get ported over to PS3.

Cause 4G kills battery life. The 4g phones released for Sprint have terrible battery life. It only lasts 7 hours if 4G is on and remember this just browsing the web and talking on the phone. Playing games would be even worse. This is japan though, why the hell would they be using outdated 3G? And 4G is becoming widespread this year, why not that?

Even the PSP screen was large enough for gaming; this thing is 5 inches, only 2 inches smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and much larger than the largest smartphone screens. Honestly, you'll be surprised when you see how big the screen is; the bezel (border) around the screen is very small (could change however), so it's going to dominate the face of the device. With all the those PS3-port demos they had today I wonder how many PS3 games are going to get ported over to PS3.

Question: If I have an AT&T 3g service for my iPhone, is it possible to use that service on other devices such as PSP2?
us pays for 3g , , which is bad cause now well have to pay a cell phone company lol im not ill stick to wifi
My theory regarding 3G.. It probably needs to be free to succeed. Now, Amazon do this with the Kindle, but the files it downloads are usually kilobytes and rarely any bigger. So, my theory is that accessing content such as the store, online gaming, maybe the web browser, will be free, because generally these things are low usage. Sony will make a deal with a network in each country, like Amazon did with the Kindle. Downloading larger content such as games and videos will have a surcharge included in the price, which goes directly to the network provider. This will effectively mean that 3G appears to be free, but we actually pay for large downloads in the total price of paid downloads. cjekThe problem with that solution is, how much would they have to tack on to the price to cover 3G cost of all the user? Considering some user wont even buy games or DLC online. And what about demos? are they not gonna have them, or make they wifi only, and if they plump up the price of online content, what about the wifi only users.

Alternatively, downloading large files could be limited to Wi-Fi or USB transfer, and 3G would be for general PSN activity, smaller DLC, and web activity, which personally I'd be happy with, because downloading a game over 3G would be a nightmare. It's not reliable or fast enough in reality, especially in such a densely populated country like the UK.
