psp+ps3 related question..please help!:(

ok here is my problem,i have a psp and ps3.

i am running system software ver:3.02 oe-b on my psp so i can play psone and back-up psp games,but i would like to register my psp for use with my ps3.

trouble is when i try and register my psp with my ps3 it says i need  to update it,when i go to update on my psp it downloads the update no problem(which was 3.4)but when it comes to installing it nothing happens:(...my psp just swiches off.

i dont realy want to lose the ability to play back-ups on my psp so does anyone know any way to solve this?..a big thanks in advance:)

I know this is not the answer you want to hear, but here it goes... 

in order to have full PS3/PSP inter-connectivity you need to have the current firmware on both systems and no hacks or homebrew.. Sony purposely did this and they will continue in order to have reliable compatibility between the two.
