Ok i had to sign up to this forum just to get this out. Now first off: I hate Microsoft. I mean they are nothing but evil tyrant corporation crap m-i-rite? Can i get a witness?
Anyways Nintendo aint doing nuthing for me so i decided to transfer my sights on Sony this time around for the next-gen console wars (which sony has always been winning, can someone agree with me? )
But i have to say the one piece of software i am currently hyped over is Killzone 2. Why? Because of that screenshot up there? No. But because of that in-game trailer they showed at E32005. Oh hellz yeah. You DID know that wa sin game right? That one dude even said so(Peter Moore? correct me if im wrong thx) .
So lets analyze this picture here. This is totally inbiasedand im going to express my opinions as such as i follow through with this.
Ok so the glowing eyes are pretty decent. And. ... uh....hmm..... well. The gun looks ok if it wasn;t black, liek the ****ing atmosphere around it. What? The hell? Is that the wall texture? talk about 128x128. Holy missing normal map batman, they could've atleast put a bump map on there. HEY GG HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE NVIDIA PHOTOSHOP NORMAL MAP PLUGIN? GETS SOME ****ING SKILLS! Where the hell is the sub-surface light scattering on the hand? Come on GG its not that hard with a couple render maps and some baked on abient occlusion. They even could've used some leather material shaders, they aren't hard to create.
Another thing heres, the ****ing helghast guy there? so, i can see some grey, and some light grey on there. i dont even see any ****ing textures, more like a few phongs pasted on here and there with maybe some reflection but i dont think so. actually i think its a defautl phong like, no gain or bias at all. what the ****? no incidence? no color mixers? jesus christ at least they could've pulled up the render tree and put in some extra **** and faked sub surface light scattering, reflection. actually, you know all they had to do was use some god damn material presets. HEY GG, ITS WINDOW -> RENDERING EDITORS -> HYPERSHADE... OR Alt-7!!! (if you're using XSI of course)
Also, they could've used some ****ing anti-aliasing, or smooth proxy, jesus christ what the **** were they thinking? just press the god damn + key next time you ****tards. SUBDIVIDE SUBDIVIDE SUBDIVIDE!!!!! ****!
Holy crap is ti jsut me or is NOTHING detailed at all in this picture? was ZBRush in thjeir budget?! MUDBOX? I mean come on wtf?! It looks like their used paint for their displacement maps and it looks like everything is one colour. You know kinda like the Ford Model T? You can have Any colour your wanted as long as it was black?!
Ok, enough with babblin on about shaders, models and all that jazz, let's talk about 1 majoir thing. Lighting and shadows, they can amke or break the gamne and they sure as **** broke it here. The shadows look competely on par... with Syphon Filter from PSX. You know what shadows looked better? Thats right, Unreal Tournament. Thats right, the first one. It actually actually had some shape, the shadowmaps in KZ2 are a compelte dissapointment as it appears their shadow render map ****is about 64x64. Come on, i think id rather prefer crappy Stencil Shadows, or hell you know what, turn on shadows in Quake 2, with the crappy flat geometry tinted black and alpha'd to 40, and ill take that over the crappy shadow maps i see here.
Ok so we all know the graphics cannot be as awesome online as offline, thats common knowledge. But this is so beyond SUBPAR that i think the Wii might be able to compete graphically, ONLINE.
Speaking of whcih, does this game not look completely like Black on the roginal Xbox? What the hell is this crap all about?! IOts like "OK guyz, lol, heres the black engine, go ahead guyz and maken a pretty sweet example of it, kthxbailol"
*ahem* Ok, now with that out of the way, i can gleefully say this without any shadow of a doubt.
1. KZ2 sucks.
It will suck. Oh dont get me wrong. I mean "It sucks BALLS". There is no way in gods green earth can they match up to that "real-time PS3 trailer" what ****ing madness. Oh im sorry i forgot to ask since i totally disregarded the rules and regulations of this forum. Eh what am i saying, KZ2 was my **** for this generaiton, what am i to do now? Oh i guess ince the game of my dreams isn;t going to look the way i wanted it to, i should go drown in some cyanide but before that ill rip on some anti-depressant pills, because those totally work.
Ok, its CLEARLY obvious, they outsourced the production of that previz to..guam or some ****. I mean those guys had more skills than GG at this point. They actually know how to animate, and if Killzone 1 was any indication of they skills, than i can expect a whole hell of alot from Killzone 2 Anymore.
