Okay, so here's the deal. I DO plan on buying a PS3. Yes, I will get one - its just a matter of timing.

In my opinion there aren't very many great games out yet, although I have about 20 or so PS3 games I'm looking forward to playing within the next year. If I were to purchase a PS3 at this point in time, it would pretty much be solely to quench my thirst for an affordable Blu-Ray player to showcase my 60" Sony XBR HDTV.

My question is this: in the opinions of the good people of the PS3 forums, would it be worth holding off on purchasing until Playstation Home comes out and is pre-installed on the system, the system's price drops, possible hardware upgrades are added to the system, etc, etc... or would it be worth shelling out $600 at this point in time? I know the software is all upgraded via the Playstation network, but I guess I'm kind of a purist, and I'd like to have as "clean" of an install as possible (similar to the reasoning behind reformatting my computer every 2 months or so). If anyone has any information in regards to upcoming price drops, new more reliable hardware in the PS3's future, or anything of that sort, I would GREATLY appreciate input (I have already been on the fence about this purchase for a few months now).

My humble thanks!

PLEASE WAIT!!!! The last thing we need to see on the ps3 forums is another ''WHERE ARE THE GOOD GAMES THREAD".If you are not going to take advatage of the additional multimedia functions of the ps3 ... you should wait.

It might be hard to get a ps3 when the price drops since alot of people are waiting too.  I am waiting for the drop, I dont mind getting it later as long as I can save a 100 bucks.  Meanwhile, I got PC to occupy my time with.

I assure you I would never start any "WHERE R TEH GAMEZ??" threads.

As far as the PS3's multimedia capabilities - that would actually be the reason I would get one at this point in time... I would use it as an affordable Blu-Ray player until the big games like Killzone and MGS4 come out.

I would say purchase, only b/c you said you will be using it for its other functions. Plus the price drop won't happen for a while, prolly next summer if anything. So you may save $100, well the way I look at it its like paying an extra $100 to own the system a year early(like a rental fee). Ninja Gaiden is coming out very soon and is amazing, if you like GOW type games this one you'll have to pick up.

hmm, well i wouldn't count on any price drops for at least 2-3 years, although rumors fly about, nothing is confirmed and its only been like 6-7 months.  Unless you don't mind waiting that long, then i would say go for it as our supposed "game drought" is ending this month with the darkness, ninja gaiden sigma, rainbow six, and then the next few months are going to kick ass i.e lair, heaenly sword, killzone 2, ratchet and clank, gta 4 etc.  As far as hardware goes, its technologically, pretty much the most advanced system and its also the most reliable system, i persoally have heard not complaints of faulty hardware.  Also, while anything is possible, i think it will be a while before home comes as a standard software as their shipments of the ps3 are in the hundreds of thousands and to contstantly ship new systems with every new software version will cost sony a lot of money, but as soon as it comes out you can definetely download it via psn.  I would really say go for it, but if you want to wait, then wait until september when killzone 2 is supposed to come out, as you are looking forward to it.  Don't count on any price drops though.

Get Resistance Fall of Man, offline the game is good, online it's addictive as crack. I can't tell you how many times i've stayed up past 5 am, always saying "this is my last game" 40 player team deathmatch madness kicks ass.

Oblivion and Motorstorm are great also, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma come out at the end of month.

I would not wait. I myself had just recently bought one and I don't regret it at all. If you have a fat HD tv and your into gaming, you need to buy it. Just remember that if you wait out too long, the backwards compatibility issue in Europe might come here. Your not even sure when the next price drop will come. I think you might have to wait over 1 year. Trust me.

purchase now.

then go get Resistance, Motorstorm and Oblivion. That will hold you for a while. You can also get Rainbow 6 Vegas and Ninja Gaided (both releasing on the 26th of this month) and if you need even more games Darkness might be good. but that's 4 definite buys and 1 maybe. that'll hold you for a good amount of time. trust me.

why wait?

Hold off and wait. I bought mine in January and it has been used primarily for a DVD player. There are no real great games to justify the purchase. Wait and see if there is a price drop in the future unless you need a Blu-Ray player that badly.

Thank you everybody for the great responses! I think I'll go pick one up this weekend finally. I already have Oblivion on PC (I hook it up to my tv via HDMI), but I've heard some good things about Resistance. Guess I'll have to check it out for myself!

Oh, and in response to:

Not everyone who plays games is 15 years old and has a "momy" to buy tv's for them. Thanks for your input nonetheless. ;)
