I am considering purchasing a PS4. I however do not have access to the internet at my home. I'm typing this on my iphone. I know that the system requires an update when it is first used, but after that, what kind of burdens are there as far as the interweb goes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No net will mean no updates, no online mutli-player, and no PlayStation store, pretty much. Also missing out on PS Plus service and content.

If you have a friend or neighbor with a connection, they could let you hook up your PS4 to update it or access the store when needed.

If you can use your iphone to browse the internet at home, then at the very least, you could get a prepaid 3G or 4G wireless service. You would need to plug the dongle into your PC or laptop (if you have one), then connect your PS4 to your PC or laptop via an Ethernet crossover cable.
Then, whenever you require internets, you can buy prepaid credit to use it, and that starts very cheap.

@Lhomity: Thanks for responding, I guess my only other question regarding this issue is if the games usually require updating before you can play. I've had to do it a few times before with my PS3 and 360, and it's a pain to pack it all up, and travel to dads in town. Once or twice isn't bad, but every other game would be a deal breaker.

Wait wait wait.... so, the PS4 REQUIRES an initial internet connection to get an update to be used?

@jinsing129: I forgot to mention, you can update with a USB flash drive.

http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps4/new-install/

When you buy your PS4, set it up at your dad's or a friend's place, update it, sign in to PSN and activate it as your 'Primary' console. After that, you can get by fine with a USB drive for future updates, so you won't have to move your console each time. With the update and activation, you'll have full features as well as DVD/blu-ray playback (which you otherwise won't have).

@Kevlar101: Nope. Can setup a PS4 without a connection just fine. But some features won't work without updating and activating. PS3 was the same.

@Lhomity: Coolio. I just purchased a 32gb Flash Drive and hadn't even considered using that to update my games. Now I just have to see if I can find a good deal and that console is mine!!! Thanks for the help.

@jinsing129: You do not need an internet connection to play games, you can order cd's from Sony themself and get patches that way. You do not need internet whatsoever to play on this console
