And instead we will have to pay for Qore. Ive explained myself over on Playstation.com after the information on Qore was released and i thought id left everyone over here know whats going on with this new system. Here are just some of mine as well as others responses after hearing about Qore.

"Yes PSN is still getting content, and Qore is getting exclusive content that PSN will not have.

All of that exclusive content would be in the PSN, if there was no Qore. We'll be payin extra for the stuff that we should've got free.

Exclusive content:

"special access to game demos, special beta invitations, game add-ons and other downloadable game-related content."

"as well as the latest Blu-ray Disc trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation theme"

So what could of been in PSN that will be in Qore instead include Demos, Add-ons, Themes, Blu-ray trailers, that will never hit PSN. this will mean that you will have to pay just to access this content!"

In response to "diehard fanboy"

"Alright Juuken, heres the thing, What sony is doing with Qore is there taking what would be put into PSN and making us pay for it. They say they have exclusive content, well we would have that for free if they didn't make Qore. Theyre nickle and diming us to the extreme, with a subscriptions and people are buying it. We shouldnt have to pay for a feature that should and was free."

Another persons take on the issue:

Impossibilium | June 3rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm

If you want to know what's wrong with the PS3 this post says it all.

This should be free. Why? Because right now there is little evidence of Sony being part of a gaming community.

Where is the integration in the XMB and the PSN between players, developers and Sony? You can't even read this blog properly in the PS3 browser because Flash hasn't been updated since it was released.

Sony should be talking directly to the gamers through the PSN. It should be nurturing a community with direct communication. If Major Nelson can be bothered to add a small free podcast to Live for free then why can't we have something at the PSN for free? Free for all users, to get all users involved. There is little sense of Sony caring about community relations outside of this blog.

This was a perfect opportunity for Sony to start directly talking to gamers and making them feel that the PSN was something special. It should have been a free show every week running for about 15 minutes. Letting PS3 users inside the PS3 world, putting faces on the talent involved and allowing gamers to relate to industry gamers. Making a community. Everyone on the 360 knows the name of Major Nelson. The same should be true for the Playstation but it isn't. It just makes Sony seem intentionally aloof and out of touch from the audience.

The information board is useless. It's too slow and by the time the tiny amount of news hits it you already know. It's an impersonal system that's just an RSS reader. Qore will be the same. It will be exclusive for an hour or two then the news will be just as redundant as sites like Kotaku and Joystiq report on it and Qore hits YouTube.

So yes, it will be just like a magazine. Outdated as soon as it's released"

I was told to respond to this many times:

"If you purchase Qore, you will have access to exclusive content that would not be available otherwise - it does not impact the availability of the great content found on PSN, nor does it change our free play model." - amurphy (a PS:B mod)

all thats saying is there is going to be great content still on the PSN like there was, there should be that extra on the PSN anyway though. How happy have you been with the PSNs last 2 updates?

of course theyre going to say that

Another:

calf_exercises | June 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 pm

"nothing can make me excited for this, you want people to pay for advertising? that is the stupidest thing ever. The hole point is to promote PS3 ang PSP games and you want us to pay. And you are going to give beta keys away to the people stupid enough to pay for this. Betas are ment to be free!
well this isnt one of the best ideas sony has ever had.
if it is free then its fine but untill then it sucks"

As you can see this new "e-mag" could end up, and will, make us paying for things that we otherwise would have gotten free have it not been for Qore.

If you read this and are uppset, mad, or have questions please feel to ask.

I find it quite odd how some people are so vocal and saying that Sony has to do things for gamers. Sony does things, sometimes based on what is or is not feasible -- perhaps from an implementation point of view -- and if you don't like it, don't get a PS3. There was a time when what you buy is what you get and the idea of updates that improve what you bought was unheard of...some companies even adopted a system where you needed to pay more to get updates. We're getting updates, bug fixes, enhancements, etc. for "free" after having initially paid for the system.

I hope Sony just does what they want to do (as with Microsoft and Nintendo) and based on what they do, we decide whether or not we should buy their system. Imagine buying a new car and expecting to getting upgrades for free during its lifetime...I think some gamers should relax a bit... I'm just happy there aren't any bugs in what we bought...how many times have I lost work, essays, etc. due to software problems...

In all the time ive ever been on forums i have never heard that till supporters of Qore started using that excuse. But I guess their just the ones that feel that way anyway. Also the money that comes from this will be miniscule compared to the amont of money Sony's raking in, there really is no change exept for live news, that would be posted online anyway (and is just promotions for their new games...were paying for their commercails Yay), and betas, ok that is the only thing really new coming.

I think its crap. One of the main selling points for the PS3 is that the online is free and we still get access to some premium content. Qore ruins that aspect of the PS3's online. What's next, paying for home?

Well thats true, if i did buy a new car i wouldn't expect to get free updates, i would however like it to be fixed if it was broke, ie bugs, and if you have lost said things do to software issues from your pc (or whatever) i would check for updates(btw, there usally free...depending on the provider). And as you say yes there was a time were we got a system and that was it, that time has past and now were expecting better from technology.

Really? i didnot know this, who is the head of this. Also as said, if it wasn't for Qore it would not exist, so your saying that if not for Qore there wouldn't be, oh say a SOCOM theme? or some add-on game content that was already made would have never been? (example: SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4 and Afro Samurai, wouldn't have some "exclusive" content)

Without knowing what the content is or how much this will help get money to developers, I don't think its fair to just assume that all of the things you'll get with Qore would also have made it to PSN had Qore not existed for a fee.

Just my two cents.

So is Rev3 involved in any way? Or are you working for both Rev3 and Sony's Playstation unit now?

Nope! Rev3 is not involved in any way. Technically, I work for Future US, the publishers of such magazines as Playstation: The Official Magazine, PC Gamer, and MacLife. I am not a Sony employee!

I dont think that ALL the content would have been put on the PSN (betas for example). And valid point, but saying that all content that is on qore was just made for it and would have never existed really just doesnt make much sense.

would you pay $3.00 for a demo that would have been free? Would you put out $25 a year for new themes? Would you pay money to then have to buy a Add-on?

Well looking at the betas, they wouldn't be open to such a large group without Qore so I consider that a little different.

And without knowing what content will actually be on Qore, I don't think we can assume that the content on Qore would have ended up on the PSN store. For example, one of the items I saw in the video on the PS Blog about Qore was a comic like thing for Star Wars. That definitely would not have made it to PSN. Just an example.

Bah, I think it's crap personally.. I'm not even going near this thing. I don't need it "that bad". Besides, (like other people have posted) I'm not paying for promotional commercials. It's like, why would I pay McDonalds to tell me to buy a Big Mac? Not to mention, you get useless things if you get this service aswell. You gain nothing. I'd rather buy a magazine.

Yes the betas are great, love the idea of them personally, but y not and them to the PSN? make a file right above demos and call it good.

And true there are some new things coming that we havent seen before with this, thats great but when it comes to throwing in the exclusive add-on, demos, themes (all of which are posted in the blog) and not letting the people who have PSN pay, sorry but that could be the start of just putting the good stuff on qore and throwing the leftover crap onto the PSN.

That was what PSU's G.A.P was for anyways. It just basically killed one of the main purposes of that whole program that was invite only btw.

One of the reasons I bought a PS3 instead of a 360 was that it had free online content. And I realize that I can still play online for free(although I don't really play Multiplayers, so i don't really care), but not for the good content, i have to pay. I feel like it is a bit of a "bait and switch" by Sony. Supposidly this won't effect what is already on PSN, but I don't see how it won't. $3 isn't much, but its more then i should have to pay for a demo. Imagine going into the grocery store and them charging you for samples. You probably wouldn't get any samples, no matter what the cost. It is the principle.

So funny to hear the Sony fanboys defending being charged for demo's that would've otherwise been free. Microsoft doesn't even charge for demo's. Sure Microsoft charges $49.99 a year for Xbox Live, but it really shows with the service you get. Qore is a sad step towards PSN users being charged for stuff that really should be free. And for those saying Sony aint in charge they are in charge it's their freakin online service so I'm sure they're getting a chunk of change some how out of this Qore thing. If Sony wanted to keep things free and standard like it is currently with PSN then they should atleast enforce Qore not to be selling demos and betas which essentially is what they're doing

there is still suppose to be free content. None of that has changed, they are just charging for the "exclusive" content.. we will see what happens in the next few weeks. But i dout Qore would have stoped the free BDZ demo or any third party demo for that matter.

Yeah that may be true. But what Qore offers is nothing but crap that should be free. Plus also, I feel I would get a lot more out of a mag than a 15 minute episode that I pay for just to see Sony commercials. If I wanted insider stuff, I would get a Limited Edition of that game or watch it on the net or something. Most of the content it offers aside from the demos and such, can be found for free on the net. So the whole purpose of Qore defeats itself. It's very existence doesn't even make sense. If they wanted a pay service, they could've done a lot better than what they're trying to sell now. They've got to make people want to get it. But anybody that sees that this is just pure BS won't even touch it. It's not the fact that it's 3 or 25 bucks. It's about what it is, what it offers. It's just plain stupid.

....
Its a 2 - 3 hours show + exclsuive themes / beta access ... possibly early demo's ...

No one is forcing you to pay. You will proberly be able to get 99% of the content for free off the internet ...

On XBL trailers / demo's are delayed for silver users - you have pay to play online ... all SONY has done to is added an new service to PSN and their charging a reasonable price ( come on $3 a month or $25 for a year isn't that bad ) ....

there is still suppose to be free content. None of that has changed, they are just charging for the "exclusive" content.. we will see what happens in the next few weeks. But i dout Qore would have stoped the free BDZ demo or any third party demo for that matter.-DeStijl-

And thats exactly what im talking about. That exclusive content that would have been on a free service.

Basically it sounds that we will end up with a "Silver"+"Gold" account same as on LIVE,The Gold account being the Qore one that you'll have to pay for and probrably the rest of us left with basic account will just be able to do basic things.

I only hope online play won't be restricted to Qore account?

So funny to hear the Sony fanboys defending being charged for demo's that would've otherwise been free. Microsoft doesn't even charge for demo's. Sure Microsoft charges $49.99 a year for Xbox Live, but it really shows with the service you get. Qore is a sad step towards PSN users being charged for stuff that really should be free. And for those saying Sony aint in charge they are in charge it's their freakin online service so I'm sure they're getting a chunk of change some how out of this Qore thing. If Sony wanted to keep things free and standard like it is currently with PSN then they should atleast enforce Qore not to be selling demos and betas which essentially is what they're doing gamer082009

I haven't seen a full length annual subscription for a magazine before either... although this is what Qore essentially is, only it's much better and you can watch it... in HD. We defend it on the basis that it is optional and the freebies that come with it are very zine oriented (demo disks anyone?). It's very sad that this discussion is being had. Quore really has nothing to do with the actual network. It is only a part of the overall package. Think of it like you Microsoft guys paying an additional fee for some full length HD episodes on Live which already costs some good money. We have the option of participating and meanwhile, the network is free and will function as normally as it ever has. I'm really looking forward to Quore. I have a knack for picking out a quality product when advertised.

I have a feeling that's where the good PS1 games are going to go lol

If they have a firmware update exclusive to Qore, then I'll be pissed. But I don't think they're stupid enough to pull that.

You guys are wrong... Qore isn't replacing PSN in anyway. Imagine Qore as being an online magazine like OPM. It's basically like going out and buying an issue of OPM and getting the bonus DVD they give you. The exclusive features are only going to be there anyways so it's basically like giving you an option to buy an online magazine and sometimes getting bonus content.

It's a bit of the "what's next if they can do this?" fear. Which I feel a bit of myself. If it gets too far, I'll just rely on my PC to play online like how my online gaming "life" began in the first place.
