i have a launch 20 gb ps3

the warranty is way over

and i noticed my ps3 gets hot very quick and isnt so quiet anymore.

i have never opened it to clean all the dust from inside.

if i do this, will it make my ps3 run quieter?

it could, but you lose the opportunity to send it to sony if it breaks, even if you pay for it. You will have to buy a new one or get it fixed 3rd party if it breaks. That in mind, cleaning the dust and applying new thermal compound to the proc will help keep system cool.

Sounds like your a couple steps away from YLOD . . .I really recomend you use a vacumm to get the dust out. Or most likely youll get Ylod . . .Aperently people who have gotten ylod (including me) noticed that the PS3 was getting louder and the air would be hot even w/like 5 min of gameplay . .

I wouldnt use a strong vacuum to clean it. Maybe a handheld. Really the best way to get the dust out is to use compressed air. Either through a can or from a tank. A vacuum can create static electricity.
