Question about doing how to do something with dvd features on the PS3.

You remember on the PS2, if you had a DVD like Spiderman 2 that had mutiple languages on it, you could press R3 to switch to French, Spanish, Subtitles on, Subtitles off? I'm trying to do this with my sixaxis controler but when I press R3 nothing happens. I'm trying to put the DVD I'm watching on Subtitles for a deaf relative.
