My question is about this product in the following link...
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024002&p_id=2283&seq=1&format=2
I noticed that this is just around $8.00. Will this support my 1080p PS3 and TV? Because this seems a lot cheaper for what the product is.
I'm asking this because there is another brand (Monster Cable) that sells HDMI cables for $100 at 2.5 m or about 6 feet. Can you please explain to me why theres major cost difference? Thanks

anything under 6 feet and the brand doesn't really matter, monster cables are a rip off for almost every length and price. that HDMI cable will do perfectly fine, i got a 3 dollar cable off ebay, and then i bought a 60 dollar Monster cable, and there was no difference whatsoever.

HDMI cables are digital, and digital cables dont degrade based upon the quality of the wires or whatnot. Basically, for the digital signal transferred over HDMI, you either get a picture and sound, or you dont. Any cheap HDMI cables are going to work just as good as the expensive ones. I own one I purchased on Amazon for around $4 myself, and it works fine. Dont be suckered in by Monsters cables...they're a rip-off! If it was a component cable than I could say, yeah, maybe you'd see a difference with a $100 cable compared to $25, theoretically, it could happen. But, not with HDMI.

So virtually with this HDMI cable it would look just as good as the monster cable?

The quality of a signal via HDMI cables only drop after a certain length. For the typical home theater, the very cheap HDMI cables are just fine.

they look the same thru general application (cable box, DVD , etc.) but lets say your running 1080p with linear pcm sound and the bandwitch exceeds 4.5 gbps (average speed of cheap cables) (bluray can require more) then you will run into screen tearing and macroblocking (bandwith overload) so depending on your use of an hdmi cable is howyou would choose which kind are suited for you. Much like a tv....why would you buy a top of the line 1080p tv with all the bells and whistles if you barely watch tv.

*** There are 2 types of HDMI cables. Cat 1 and Cat 2. Cat2 is the expensive one but isnt needed unless you're doing highend stuff that uses HDMI 1.3 etc.

YES,,, CHEAPER Brands will have pooping noises with audio at times and slow start up connections, when you switch your tv or ps3 to use the hdmi a cheaper brand may show static lines or just black out.

The cheap HDMI cables have been discussed for years and it goes like this. People that knows what they talk about - buy the cheapest one. People that got ripped off and don't want to admit it - the cheap HDMI cable can't handle a quality product....

Cheap will give you the exact same product - the issues that others are having are due to tv etc not because of the cable. Just go monoprice.com / bluejeans cable - those guys have a good product. I bought monster myself five years ago when people didn't know much about this stuff - talk about scammed...

Doesn't matter what the price is, the cheapest one you can find will work just as good as an expensive one.

By HDMI.org - reliable source enough???

http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx#connectors_cables

Although a Standard HDMI cable may not have been tested to support the higher bandwidth requirements of cables rated to support high speeds, existing cables, especially ones of shorter lengths (i.e., less than 2 meters), will generally perform adequately in higher speed situations. The quality of the HDMI receiver chip (in the TV, for example) has a large effect on the ability to cleanly recover and display the HDMI signal. A significant majority, perhaps all, of the HDMI TVs and projectors that support 1080p on the HDMI inputs are designed with quality receiver chips that may cleanly recover the 1080p HDMI signal using a Standard-rated HDMI cable.

So 6ft or less - absolutely no reason to worry. Have a 1080p tv and need longer lenght - as they say pretty much no worries since the tv will handle any loss without a problem. That answers the question about any major difference.

In regards to the bigger argument - people often say I have this supergreat tv so why not buy an expensive cable - well according to above because your great tv takes care of any POSSIBLE issue (might not even exist as an issue....

end of story?

expensive cables are just a way to rip off the customers who just bought a new TV. Go with the cheap cables. The extra money in your pocket will be better spent on handfuls of dirt then expensive HDMI cables.

I have the lower end HDMI cables that I bought from Wal-Mart (I did pay more than the on-line discount stores but really not that much more considering I could take it back if needed). Also a good rule to follow is to get the shortest cable you can possibly get when you are buying a HDMI cable. Also if you happen to want the component cables for the PS3 the best ones are the Sony brand and they cost about the same as every other company charges except Monster Cables that charge a good bit more for there cable.

Not all cables are created equil. Some HDMI cables can cost as much as $300. The reason they cost more is because their wiriring is pure gold. Gold has the lowest electrical resistance of any element, so it's as good a quality as you can get. Any HDMI cable that is cheap isn't pure gold, and will not be as good a quality as the high end ones. That being said, any HDMI cable will still produce great HD output.

Moses - if you can ship vodka through your hdmi cable does that matter if there is no store hooked up to it?

Point being - read my link above HDMI.org explains the procedure apparently there are two differences one that guarantees 1080p picture and one that most likely will give it to you - if you can get 6000p through something else does that matter - no cause it doesnt' exist. That is the point that matters

If you really want you can get $7200 Pear cables but those too are basically as good as the $3 cables you can buy off monoprice. HDMI either works or it doesn't. You can see better picture quality from one cable or another. If you're using gold, copper or whatever, it will still easily push 1080p content without and problems so it makes a lot more sense to get the cheap cables.

Adding, the cheap ones will get you 1080p just fine, but remember not to get a long cord. If you want a 1.3 cord it will cost you more, but down the road if you have a nice tv it will support deep color feature which is sopposed to make pictures look much better. But this is far down the road.

i used to work at a circuit city and the markup on cables was the most out of any product we offered. cables (even monster) take no more than a dollar or two to manufacture and shipping them isn't that big a deal. i got the 6 ft hdmi cable at monoprice and it works perfectly. DONT buy cables from retailers.
