i have noticed this since day one with my ps3 (about a week ago) and i was just wondering if it was normal. i havent heard anyone else complain about it so im assuming it atleast isnt "common".

when i put in a game, and start it up, the screen will go black for a second, and then i will see about a second of white noice on the screen, kind of like when you switch to a tv channel you dont have. that usually occurs followed by a popping noise from my TV speakers, and then the screen goes black and the game starts up.

when i put in a movie, usually the screen goes from black, to green, to black again, and then i get picture.

it is common for all this to happen? does the PS3 switch video modes a lot or something? i never notice any of this with my 360, so it just seems curious why the PS3 would do it.

yeah it is. The PS3 resolution transition is wretched. If you force set all your games to run at 720p you won't get this transition.

It's if you have it set at say 1080i then it jumps to 720p then back to 1080i, or 1080p to 720p. Whenever it has to adjust resolution output it goes green purple and all fuzzy.

i have my PS3 set to only output 720p.... atleast that is what i think i have it set to. under display settings, i unchecked everything i could except for 720p. i couldnt figure out how to get it to output 720p even though 1080i is available as well, it seemed to always default to 1080i.

You gotta manually lock it to 720p all the time, it's in the HDMI options. I use to set it to 1080p but everytime I played any game I would get this purple and green transitions because basically like every game runs at 720p. So I locked it to 720p and it fixed the problem but then for movies on BluRay it's better to set it to 1080.

it isn't the playstation... all the PS does is change the resolution, the noise on the screen is the small time it takes for your tv to figure out what resolution it is seeing, and then adjust to that

Exactly it happens on all displays on PC when you play games at diffferent resolution. But I also noticed a blip sound like a crackle and a pop from the speakers through HDMI when it changes resolution wierd
