Question about Ps3 backward compatibilities.

With the last firmware update, can the Ps3 upscale ps2 games to 16:9 and 720p or 1080i?

I need to know because FF12 is not an HD game.

I would love to hear from people who have tried the upscaling on PS1 and PS2 games? What exactly does it do? Does just do a straight upscale or does it antialias and upscale? Does it have to option to smooth, like the PS2 could do to PS1 games?duncanr2n

I have tried it and it does have a smooth option. Also it will upscale to 1080p and has a option to stretch to fit your screen if the game doesn't have a widescreen option but that does make everyone a little bit fatter.

I know you figured it out but just in case others come in who don't and feel the need to start a new topic...I'll answer it.

In the cross media bar go to Settings > Game Settings

Sony has stated from the beginning that they will work on new games for the PS3 instead of BC updates.  While they may work a little bit on some BC issues, they are not going to spend alot of time on it. 

The PS2 games can't be up-scaled past 720p. It's all in what format any game or even DVD is written in. But in all the games really look very good on a PS3 with the latest firmware update.jimm895

funny how my tv claims i'm upscaling to 1080i with component cables then.  You can upscale to 1080p. 

Anyone tried titles like chrono cross, FFvii, FFxii?

FFXII the picture looks worse. Theres a ton of pixels like its missing AA.
