I'm strongly considereing buying a ps3, but I haven't really followed the news about ps3 since before it was launched. I remember there was a lot of talk about the ps3 not working with certain tvs b/c it couldn't downgrade 1080 games to 720 on certain tv sets or something similar. I don't recall the details.

anyway, my question is, are those initial hardware concerns fixed and should i have any problem playing any game on any tv i hook a ps3 up to? While I don't have one yet, i will probably get a 1080p in the future, but don't know when. Please help

What do you want help with? If you pick up a 1080p display it will display 720p, 1080i, and 1080p where's your issue?

The problem you are talking about was 720p games with 1080i TV's. It is a TV issue, not a PS3 issue (necessarily), as these TV's generally cannot take a 720p signal and change it to 1080i. The types of HDTV's that are 1080i only include: CRT HDTV's, many plasmas, and rear projection CRT's. The HD inputs on a specific TV will generally note what they are capable of taking, otherwise consult the manual or specification sheet of the particular TV.

The newer HDTV's have no issues with the PS3 and you can save a good amount of cash by getting a 1080i LCD that supports everything below this resolution including 720p. If you keep the size below 40 inches then you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p.

so there is still a chance that if i have a 1080i tv that it may not be able to play 720p games? Is there a solution to this?

It depends because most 1080i also support 480i, 480p, and 720p. My 1080i TV supports all of these resolutions.
