Question about "broadband" internet, about online play

Ok so the deal is this, I currently have Comcast "High Speed Internet" Performance lite which runs 4mbps/384kbps and it cost me around $67 a month and works fine with online gaming. This month with the bill they put a little flyer about some "High Speed Internet" economy which runs at 384kbps/384kbps and would cost me about $45 a month.I hate comcast but they are my only way of getting broadband internet, thats just a side note. My question is if the "economy" will work for online gaming? I hate the fact that I pay $67 a month to comcast so if I could save $20 or so a month and get the same general results then I will. Any help with this will be great help. Thanks.....

I thought my interent bill was high and I pay 44.95 a month for 30mbps / 5mbps. Most cable companies are offering internet and phone as a package so maybe you should check it out.

fastest cable we can get in my state is 6mb....where do you live and who do you have the service with? I want to move there.

You're talking about going from a cable line to a DSL line. DSL is like dial up speed compared to cable, so while it will work with online gaming, you would get a lot of lag and probably get timeout boots from a lot of your sessions. I say keep cable, but then again I fully utilize the bandwidth I pay for with my internet so it's worth it for me. If you don't mind a huge drop in speed and the lagouts that will happen at times while online gaming, then sure go with crap DSL.ringbling

I will disagree. I had cable. And while I wish it was available in my area, I had to settle for DSL. I play online all the time with DSL, and I had just as much lag with cable as I do with DSL.

just as a perspective, 6mbps is cable and 3mbps is DSL in my area...so they are not that much different from each other.

That speed will be okay but expect a little lag. You should keep your current internet. But the price is really crazy. I live in Toronto and I pay $45 Canadian a month for 7MBPS.

I understand that packages cost less, I perfer Sat TV for HD reasons. So I will again ask the dumb question is 348Kbps/384Kbps equal to DSL? If so I could use it but run the risk of time out problems when playing online? Any help with those two questions would be a big help. Thanks again.miahpreston03

thats slower then most dsl's unless u get a very basic dsl package

400 kbps lag might show generally u want higher then that and at that speed u wont be able to be on the computer and psn atthe same time and expect decent results you can always try it for a week or so and see if it works up to your standards im sure and if not just call comcast and switch back
