Use the triangle button and select "Import" from Music when your CD is highlighted.
Before you rip your CD though, you'll want to configure the settings for which you rip the audio. Settings --> Music SettingsĀ
Unless you're a real audiophile, anything above 192kbps for an mp3 seems like an over-kill, in my opinion.
Most likely, your CDs will not display album art, but you can add your own. Just find the picture (Google Images is fastest), save it, and when you're ready to add it to your music, just highlight the album you ripped, hit the Triangle button, go to Information, and press X to edit the cover art.Ā
You can burn music on the PS3?!?!?!?!
EDIT: Can you do DVDs aswell?

no you can RIP them. RIPPING is the opposite of BURING, instead of throwing data from your hard drive to a disc, your taking the data from the disc and saving it on the hdd.
also, no you can't rip dvd's on the ps3.Ā

you can't rip a movie dvd, but, if you burn the movies to your pc's hard drive using either a torrent site or something like handbrake and then copy them to a dvd disc as a data file, you can rip them to your ps3. make sure to save them as mpeg1 and not wmv(not sure about others but mine has issues reading those files).
