So my fat ps3 broke down. And I have to send it in to sony, I was wondering if the refurbished one(most likely) that they will give me will be able to play ps2 games like my fat one. Much appreciated

Did you you choose the option to have the same model replaced at the Playstation site? When my 60G died (and it was out of warranty, arrgh!) I had the option of having it replaced for the slim PS3 at a lesser price. I chose to pay more to get a 60G.

Same, just got it back too. It still plays PS2 and PS1, and they specifically told me when I was speaking to them over the phone that the problem will not happen again (YLOD)

I had mine repaired without my original receipt by Sony, so I think you should be good. If not then try offering them a pudding pop.

Do you guys think I should keep my fat ps3 with ps2 backwards compatibility. Or should I go for the slim for 30 clams less?

Simple answer, do you still play PS2 games?

If yes, yes. Otherwise, go with the slim.

I wouldn't do it, thats like trading in a Cadillac for a Volkswagen.
